WASHINGTON, DC: US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump officially welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the White House, marking the second day of the royal couple’s state visit.

The ceremony follows a more relaxed first day that included tea at the White House and a garden reception at the British ambassador’s residence.

Full military honors on the South Lawn

The formal arrival ceremony, held on the South Lawn, featured military honors rendered by the US Army Herald Trumpets, reflecting one of the highest diplomatic courtesies extended to a visiting head of state.

The tradition dates back to the 18th century and underscores the significance of the visit.

Melania Trump appeared in a coordinated white ensemble, selecting designs by American fashion houses including Ralph Lauren, paired with accessories by Eric Javits and Manolo Blahnik.

Her sartorial choices are part of months-long preparations tied to the broader diplomatic planning of the visit.

Ceremonial rituals and symbolic gestures

The programme included a 21-gun salute by the Presidential Salute Battery and the playing of both national anthems by “The President’s Own” US Marine Band.

The King and President also reviewed troops on parade before brief remarks concluded the ceremony.

In a notable addition, Trump has incorporated new features into the ceremony, including a “pass in review” of troops observed jointly by the two leaders.

The event also marks the first appearance of a Space Force Honor Guard formation at a White House state arrival, highlighting the military branch established during Trump’s first term.

Before the ceremonial proceedings, the King and Queen met official delegations from both countries, reinforcing diplomatic ties as the visit progresses with a packed schedule of engagements.
