WASHINGTON, DC: In a ceremony marked by rain and formal pageantry, President Donald Trump on Tuesday, April 28, welcomed King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the White House.
Speaking from the South Lawn, the President used the visit to launch the United States’ 250th-anniversary celebrations, highlighting the longstanding “special relationship” between the two nations.
Trump said the occasion was a fitting moment to recognize shared history despite the origins of American independence from Britain.
Opening his remarks, Trump acknowledged the weather, saying, “What a beautiful British day this is. And it really is.”
He then pointed to historical ties between the United States and the United Kingdom, stating that elements of American identity developed before independence.
“Before we ever proclaimed our independence, Americans carried within us the rarest of gifts — moral courage, and it came from a small but mighty kingdom from across the sea,” he said.

He also noted that the ship where Churchill and Roosevelt met was named Prince of Wales, a title previously held by King Charles III for decades.
Trump said the historical connection reflects the continuity of the relationship and its role in global affairs.

He said the visit underscores those connections as the country begins commemorating its 250th anniversary.
Trump stated that the American identity developed through influences that originated in Britain, adding that these shared roots remain part of the relationship between the two nations.
