WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump, during the White House press conference on Monday, July 6, joked about sending Senator Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court, saying both Republicans and Democrats want him out of the Senate.

Trump held a press conference on Monday at the White House, where he spoke about several issues, including confirming that he called FIFA President Gianni Infantino to rethink the association’s red card decision on Folarin Balogun.

Trump recalled that someone had asked whether he would ever appoint Sen Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court, saying Cruz was a "great lawyer."

Trump joked that Cruz was the only person who could win all 100 Senate votes for confirmation.

“Well, he is the only one I can think of who is going to get 100 votes,” Trump said. “All Republicans and Democrats would vote for him because they want to get him the hell out of the Senate.”

The president further said that if he were facing hard times in getting votes, he would appoint Ted Cruz because he would get 100% of the votes.

Sen Ted Cruz thanked President Donald Trump on Monday for intervening against a "ridiculous" World Cup red card for Folarin Balogun.

Speaking alongside the president, Cruz began his remarks at an event on 'Trump Accounts' by thanking Trump for working to get FIFA to reverse the one-game suspension tied to Balogun's red card.

"On behalf of all Americans, thank you for getting rid of that ridiculous red card," Cruz said. "It was spectacular. There was a reason the FIFA trophy sat here for as long as it did."

The president said he “understands sports really, really well,” so he felt compelled to say something when he saw a slow-motion replay of the collision that led to Balogun’s red card.

“They got sort of entangled. He didn’t do anything wrong, and he’s our best player — or one of our best players. A very vital player. And he gave him a red card. I didn’t know what that meant. I didn’t think it meant much,” Trump said.

Trump continued, “It’s one thing to penalize somebody for the game. But how do you penalize him for a game that hasn’t been played yet? You can’t do that. So yes, I asked for a review.”

“All I did was ask for a review. I didn’t say you have to do this,” Trump added while clarifying that he didn’t force Infantino to change his decision.
