WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump's attorney issued a cease-and-desist letter to the filmmakers of the former president's biopic 'The Apprentice' less than a week after it was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, reported Variety.

On Friday, May 24, Trump attorney David Warrington sent a letter to director Ali Abbasi and screenwriter Gabriel Sherman demanding to block the movie's release.

The Republican presumptive nominee's team demanded 'The Apprentice' makers to "cease and desist from all marketing, distribution, and publication of the Movie", which stars Sebastian Stan as a younger Trump and Jeremy Strong as attorney Roy Cohn, according to The Hill.

The cease-and-desist letter criticized the makers for portraying untruthful things about what they claimed to be a biopic.

"The Movie presents itself as a factual biography of Mr Trump, yet nothing could be further from the truth," Warrington's letter read.

"It is a concoction of lies that repeatedly defames President Trump and constitutes direct foreign interference in America's elections," it continued, adding, "If you do not immediately cease and desist all distribution and marketing of this libelous farce, we will be forced to pursue all appropriate legal remedies."

The movie's producers dismissed the accusations and told Variety it was "a fair and balanced portrait of the former president."

"We want everyone to see it and then decide," they added.

After its debut on May 20 at Cannes, the movie reportedly received critical acclamation with an eight-minute standing ovation.

The controversial film portrays the billionaire real estate mogul's rise in New York during the 1970s and 1980s. The Trump campaign's threat to file a lawsuit stemmed from the negative depiction of the former POTUS, which included contentious scenes including his late ex-wife Ivana Trump.

The movie contains a graphical portrayal of Trump, played by 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' star Stan raping the character Ivana, portrayed by actress Maria Bakalova. The scene was included based on Ivana's allegation during her divorce deposition in 1989. However, she retracted the accusation in 2015, stating the story was "totally without merit."

Internet ridicules Trump over cease-and-desist letter to 'The Apprentice' makers

Netizens mocked the former president over his attempt to stop the release of the biopic portraying his negative side.

One user asked, "What happened to freedom of speech?" Meanwhile, another mockingly said, "How dare they talk about the bad things that i did."

"A lot of words to admit you’re a snowflake," a third user quipped. A fourth response read, "He should be happy Sebastian Stan is playing him. Best he ever looked."

Another person said, "Good luck with that Donnie Howabout you honor all of the cease and desists you receive for the music you play at your grifter cult rallies?"

"There goes the rest of the donations to Trump for this quarter," someone else joked.

An individual wrote, "And just like that he gave this movie the best, free advertising it could have ever hoped for. GG."

Another user added, "He just gave the movie free hype. Now more people will want to see it. Haha!"
