Trump praises Mark Zuckerberg for hiring ex-NatSec Advisor Dina Powell McCormick as Meta president

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Monday, January 12, to congratulate his former National Security Adviser Dina Powell McCormick for landing a new job. 

In his social media post, the president praised Mark Zuckerberg’s “great choice” by appointing McCormick as the president of Meta.

Dina Powell McCormick becomes Meta president

Meta announced on Monday, that a former National Security Advisor under the Trump administration had been appointed the company’s new president and vice chairman.

The statement read that McCormick had served as a member of Meta’s Board of Directors and had been deeply engaged in its pursuit of “frontier AI and personal superintelligence.”

It added that Meta was creating a big financial model to power a new decade of computing, which would include data centers, energy systems, and global connectivity like never before.

The former National Security Advisor, who has more than 25 years of experience under her belt, spent 16 years working at Goldman Sachs. She also worked under President Donald Trump during his first term and under George Bush as the assistant secretary of state.

Dina Powell McCormick had initially joined Meta in 2025 but resigned after an eight-month stint. When she initially joined the company with Patrick Collison, Zuckerberg said that Dina had a long career advocating for economic development and supporting entrepreneurs. 

“Their perspective will be extremely valuable to businesses that rely on our services to grow,” he had said on April 15, 2025.

She resigned from her position on Meta’s board of directors in early December 2025. However, the reason behind her departure was not disclosed.

At the time, an anonymous source told CNBC News that Meta did not plan on replacing McCormick’s board role but that she was being considered for a potential strategic advisory role.”

Mark Zuckerberg praises Dina Powell McCormick’s appointment 

The founder of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, shared that he was excited about Dina’s appointment as president and vice chairman of Meta.

“Dina has been a valuable member of our board and will be an even more critical player as she joins our management team. She brings deep experience in finance, economic development, and government,” he added.

Zuckerberg added that McCormick would be involved in all of Meta’s work, with the main focus of her work being partnering with governments and sovereigns to build, deploy, invest in, and finance the organization’s infrastructure.

He further wrote that he was excited to work with McCormick to ensure that Meta delivered “personal superintelligence” in a way that would benefit billions of people, communities, states, and the countries Zuckerberg was set to invest in. 

Donald Trump also praised McCormick’s appointment on Truth Social. He wrote that Mark Zuckerberg had made a great choice and praised McCormick.

“She is a fantastic and very talented person, who served the Trump administration with strength and distinction,” Trump wrote on Monday.
