WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump once again praised his wife, first lady Melania Trump, and her recently released documentary while speaking at a Women’s History Month event at the White House.

During remarks in the East Room on Thursday, March 12, the president jokingly referred to the first lady as a “movie star” and suggested her growing popularity might even make her “too big” for the White House.

The comments came while Trump was addressing guests gathered to celebrate Women’s History Month.

“Movie star! Can you believe it?” the 79-year-old said while speaking about the first lady's documentary.

“She is terrific. A big success. I think it was number one last night on streaming. Maybe she's getting too big for the White House,” he added.

The president then praised her again, telling the audience, “She really is something!”

Melania Trump’s documentary becomes a talking point

Melania’s documentary, titled ‘Melania’, was released in theaters across the United States on January 30, 2026.

During the White House event, Trump highlighted the film’s popularity while praising the first lady in front of attendees.

The documentary has drawn attention since its release, especially because of the major backing it received from Amazon MGM Studios.

Despite that support, the film did not receive strong reactions from critics.

Still, Trump has repeatedly described the project as a major success and has frequently spoken about it during public appearances.

At the Women’s History Month event, he appeared proud while speaking about Melania’s work and the attention surrounding the film.

Donald Trump previously praised Melania's film at a House Republicans gathering

This is not the first time Trump has referred to his wife as a “movie star.”

The president made similar comments while speaking at his Trump National Doral resort during an event where he addressed House Republicans.

During that speech, the president recalled a moment when he returned home feeling proud after discussing falling drug prices.

According to footage reported by C-SPAN, he told the audience how he spoke to Melania about the situation.

“I was so proud and went home and told the great first lady, who’s now a movie star. Can you believe it?” Trump said.

He continued praising the documentary during that speech.

“That movie was hot. And it is hot. She became a movie star. It was good movie,” he added.

Donald Trump once joked that there may not be room for two stars in one family

Trump has also joked in the past that having two “stars” in the same household might be difficult.

While speaking during a Board of Peace event in February, the president again praised Melania’s documentary and its popularity.

At the time, he joked about the idea of both of them sharing the spotlight.

“She has a very successful movie out right now, like number one. Can you believe this? Big movie star,” Trump said.

He then playfully suggested that their household might not have space for two major personalities.

“And I always say it’s trouble, because I always say there’s not room in one family for two stars,” the POTUS added. “I told her that we can’t have two stars in one family, so I don’t know what that means, but it’s not, it’s not good.”

Trump continued speaking about the film’s popularity, suggesting that audiences were returning to theaters more than once to watch it.

“The theaters are all packed. Women, especially, they go back, and they see it two or three times, four times,” he said.
