ANCHORAGE, ALASKA: President Donald Trump praised Hillary Clinton’s rare compliment on Friday, August 15, calling it “very nice” that she said she would nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize if he could end Russia’s war in Ukraine without forcing Kyiv to surrender territory.

Speaking aboard Air Force One hours before a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump projected confidence that a peace deal could be achieved swiftly, while Clinton emphasized her nomination would depend on Trump standing firm against Putin.

Donald Trump laughs off Hillary Clinton’s remarks

President Trump was informed of Hillary Clinton’s remarks by journalist Bret Baier during an interview aboard Air Force One. After a pause, Trump smiled and quipped, “I may have to start liking her again,” drawing laughter from aides on board.

“Listen, it’s going to be trust but verify. I’m going to know, and we’re going to get to the next step,” Trump told Baier. He estimated a “25% chance of failure” but stressed that he believes Putin “wants to make a deal.”

The president reiterated his long-standing claim that he could end Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II quickly if reelected.

“I’m confident that we can do this very fast,” Trump suggested, adding that a deal with Putin “could come together rapidly.”

Hillary Clinton ties Nobel Peace Prize to firm stance against Vladimir Putin

Speaking on the 'Raging Moderates' podcast, Hillary Clinton made clear that her praise was conditional.

“If he could bring about the end to this terrible war without putting Ukraine in a position where it had to concede its territory to the aggressor, could really stand up to Putin, something we haven’t seen, but maybe this is the opportunity, if President Trump were the architect of that, I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” Clinton said.

She added, “My goal here is to not allow capitulation to Putin.”

Even before Clinton’s remarks, Trump had been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Rep Buddy Carter (R-Ga) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing his role in mediating a cease-fire between Israel and Iran.

The Nobel Committee in Oslo will announce the winner of this year’s prize on October 10.

Hillary Clinton’s Nobel Prize remark sparks social media reactions

Social media lit up after Hillary Clinton suggested she’d nominate President Donald Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize if he could broker a Russia-Ukraine deal.

One user wrote on X, "President Trump didn't need the fame. He already had it. President Trump didn't need the power. He already had it. President Trump certainly didn't need the money. He already had it. Thank you, Mr President. For every long night. For every sacrifice. For never giving up."

Another commented, "It’s actually not funny at all."

One user said, "Trump will get the Nobel Peace Prize 100% because Putin will be arrested after this meeting and charged with war crimes. Expect a press conference very soon!"

Another added, "And that’s why she’s not president. What an immature statement. Like it’s a fucking game."

One wrote, "How can idiot Trump even get this award if he hasn't actually done anything and is shaking hands with a bloody criminal who kills civilians and steals children???"

Others chimed in with, "Classic Trump gotta love it," and "Hillary is worried about what's in those burn bags."
