WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump wrote on Thursday, October 8, that the United States will not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections, as he touted record oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump’s announcement comes as the Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is reviewing a US response to an Iranian "seven-day plan" proposal.
Trump says no attack on Iran which is already in 'bad condition'
In a Truth Social post, President Trump announced that the US has no plan to launch any strike on Iran which is already in “bad condition, both Economically and Militarily.”
In the same post, Trump also confirmed that productive discussions are underway between the US and Iran through intermediaries.
President Trump further touted continued naval blockade against Iran and record oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, with nothing coming from or going to Iran.
“We are having productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote.
President Trump added that he wants everybody to know that, “Iran is in very bad condition, both Economically and Militarily, and while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, with Oil flowing in Record Numbers of Barrels through the Hormuz Strait (22 Million Barrels, last night alone, with not one barrel coming from, or going to, Iran!)”
Trump then wrote that the US will “not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd.”
“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump declared as he concluded his post.
Marco Rubio says Iran passed up multiple nuclear deal chances
Trump’s statement regarding holding off on striking Iran any time soon and preventing the Islamic Republic from having a nuclear weapon comes a day after State Secretary Marco Rubio said Iran had passed up multiple opportunities for a nuclear agreement.
The dispute revolves around Iran’s enrichment program, wherein Washington demands limits while Tehran refuses to surrender, calling enrichment its right.
Rubio made the remarks on Wednesday during a visit to Greece as efforts toward a lasting ceasefire agreement remained stalled.
“Iran has failed to take advantage of multiple opportunities to reach agreement with us on nuclear program,” Rubio said.
Iran, however, disputed Washington's account of the discussions.
A senior Iranian official involved in indirect talks with the United States said there have been “no negotiations” between Tehran and Washington over Iran's nuclear program, as per CNBC.
