Trump says he’d be ‘greatest communist in history’, slams Zohran Mamdani’s approved rent freeze

WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump seems confident he can add yet another distinction to his ever-growing resume, and he believes he'd be the greatest at it.

The 80-year-old president recently claimed he could be "the greatest communist in history" as he lashed out at New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s newly approved rent freeze.

Trump made the remarks after several Democratic congressional candidates backed by Mamdani and the Democratic Socialists of America secured primary victories in his hometown.

Donald Trump claims 'communism is very easy to sell'

The Commander-in-Chief was addressing religious conservatives at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” conference, when he pointed out “communists elected in New York City.”

“They're communists. They're not social democrats,” he said on Friday, June 26. “They want to completely destroy the traditional American way of life. Communism is very easy to sell. It destroys everything, but it's very easy.”

“Communism is very easy to sell; it destroys everything, but it’s very easy. The problem is, after two or three years, the country is a disaster area. The country fails,” he continued.

He then went on to claim that communism is “the most serious threat to our Country since its founding 250 years ago.”

“The problem is, a couple of years go by, and the whole place collapses. Always does, always has,” Trump said. “Assassinations of those who oppose them is a very important element of their ideology. Assassination is a big deal for them. They're animals, they're animals."

“In many cases, they're not smart, but in some cases, they are. It's easy to get followers because they make promises that they know they can't keep, and the [establishment] Democrats aren't fighting back. That's why they're dumb,” the president added.

Donald Trump says Zohran Mamdani’s rent freeze will turn his hometown into 'ghettos and slums'

Despite striking up an unlikely friendship last year, Trump warned on Friday that the NYC socialist mayor's rent freeze would turn his hometown into "ghettos and slums."

“[Mamdani] said he was going to do this in his campaign, but nobody thought he was serious,” Trump said, before predicting that “What the mayor doesn’t say is that these buildings will soon turn into ghettos and slums and that everybody will continue leaving New York.”

“And as this spreads throughout the country, very much like an uncontrollable form of cancer, the country itself will be taken down. It will be Third World — strictly Third World.”

Trump called the freeze unfair to landlords due to “the fact that energy, supplies, real estate taxes and just about everything else has gone up.”

The president argued that Tuesday's House primary wins by three candidates aligned with Zohran Mamdani should alarm his religious conservative base. Two are members of the Democratic Socialists of America, while the third previously belonged to the group.
