MIAMI, FLORIDA: President Donald Trump spoke on a range of global issues while attending the FII PRIORITY Summit on Friday, March 27, with particular attention on the ongoing conflict involving Iran. He said the developments in the war have helped make the Middle East "finally free" and stressed that such outcomes have been possible under his leadership.

Trump said Iran has been a “bully” for more than 47 years and argued that intervention by the US has helped curb that influence.

The conflict is still ongoing and continues to shake both the geopolitical landscape and financial markets. It has now been one month since the first missile strike on February 28.

Trump claims US action has weakened Iran’s grip on the Middle East

Trump, speaking at the FII Summit, framed the current moment as a turning point in the region’s history. He linked recent developments to US-led actions and said the Middle East is moving toward what he described as a more secure and stable future.

He told the audience, "We’re gathered at a moment of bold action and historic decision to make America and our allies safer, stronger, and more prosperous than ever before," before adding, "Tonight, we’re closer than ever to a Middle East that is finally free from Iranian terror, aggression, and nuclear blackmail."

Expanding on his claims, the commander-in-chief argued that pressure on Iran has significantly reduced its influence in the region. He said, "Under my leadership, America is ending the threat posed by this radical regime," and described recent military efforts as unprecedented in scale and impact.

He also pointed to US military strength as a key factor behind these developments. "We have the most powerful military in the world by far... we have weapons that nobody’s ever seen before," he said, crediting past investments for current capabilities.

Reflecting on Iran’s long-standing role in the region, Trump said it had been seen as a dominant force for decades. "For 47 years, Iran was known as the bully of the Middle East, but they are not the bully any longer," he stated, underscoring his view that the balance of power is shifting.

Trump links Iran conflict to economic strain, attacks Democrats over DHS funding

As global markets react to rising uncertainty from tensions involving Iran, Trump used the moment to draw attention to domestic political disputes during his speech at the FII Summit. He pointed to concerns over energy supply disruptions and broader economic instability as the conflict continues to weigh on investors.

Trump argued that the situation abroad makes internal security decisions even more urgent, calling it “absolutely vital” for lawmakers to reverse what he described as a “dangerous” shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He sharply criticized Democrats, saying they were “playing games” and went on to label them "lunatics" and "deranged."

Highlighting border and enforcement policies, Trump said, “For 42 days, they’ve tried to completely eliminate funding for the number one duty of government, which is keeping America safe. They want no ICE. They want no Border Patrol. They want no protection of any kind... re-opening our borders and stopping all immigration enforcement in our country.”

The appearance marked Trump’s second straight year speaking at the Miami gathering, an event organized by the FII Institute and supported by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, underscoring the summit’s growing international significance.
