ANCHORAGE, ALASKA: In a closely watched press conference following their high-stakes meeting, President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that no formal agreement had been reached.

While Trump described the discussion as “extremely productive” and noted that many issues were addressed, he acknowledged that they fell short on key points.

Still, he struck an optimistic tone, hinting at potential progress in future negotiations.

President Donald Trump wrapped up a brief press conference alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin by confirming that no formal agreement had been reached during their nearly three-hour meeting aimed at securing a ceasefire in Ukraine.

The event began with Putin delivering remarks in Russian for six minutes, during which he appeared to blame former President Joe Biden for the war in Ukraine and echoed Trump’s claim that the invasion would not have happened had Trump won the 2020 election.

Trump then addressed the media, expressing appreciation for Putin’s presence and describing their talks as “extremely productive.” However, he acknowledged that they had not finalized any major deal, stating, “There is no deal until there is a deal. We didn’t get there,” while remaining hopeful about future progress.

“I’m going to start making a few phone calls and tell them what happened,” Trump said. “But we had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to. And there are just a very few that are left. Some are not that significant. One is probably the most significant, but we have a very good chance of getting there. We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there.”

Putin added, “We’ll probably see you again very soon. Next time in Moscow.”

Trump-Putin summit sparks online firestorm after 'no deal' announcement

A video clip of President Donald Trump announcing that no deal was reached following his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin quickly went viral, igniting a wave of reactions across social media.

Critics were quick to pounce. One user mocked Trump's efforts, writing, "What’s hilarious is MAGA keeps saying “this isn’t Trump’s war”. If it isn’t his war and he has zero interest, why is he going through so much to end a war that isn’t his? Putin came and went away with a smile that might have to be surgically removed. Trump got punked again."

Another added, "Pathetic. “No deal until there’s a deal” — that’s loser talk. Putin fed him scraps and sent him home empty-handed."

Some comments highlighted moral and political concerns, with one user stating, "You don't make a deal to get out of a sovereign nation you invaded. You simply must leave and pay the price. Period."

Others, however, took a more measured or supportive stance. One post read, "It’s clear the outcome has sparked strong reactions. While no final deal was reached, ongoing dialogue can still be meaningful in complex negotiations. Let’s see what follows in the coming days sometimes progress takes more than one round of talks."

A Trump supporter chimed in, defending the president: "Trump is trying his best to end the war. Please give him credit for it"

Another speculated optimistically, "Maybe he's got a deal that only needs to be confirmed with Ukraine?"

Still, debate raged on, with one frustrated user snapping back, "He is the middle you idiot. He can’t just make declarations for other countries…"

What did the President say ahead of the Trump-Putin summit?

What was initially expected to be a one-on-one meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin evolved into a broader summit, with both leaders bringing key officials to the table. Trump was joined by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special US envoy Steve Witkoff, while Putin was accompanied by his foreign affairs aide Yuri Ushakov and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

In the days leading up to the summit, Trump worked to manage expectations, framing the meeting as an opening step toward a larger, future discussion that would include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I want to see a ceasefire rapidly,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday as he traveled to Alaska. “I don’t know if it’s going to be today, but I’m not going to be happy if it’s not today. Everyone said it can’t be today, but I’m just saying I want the killing to stop.”
