Trump says US skipped G20 in South Africa because 'abuses' against White farmers continue
WASHINGTON, DC: The United States shocked the world recently by not attending the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. President Donald Trump explained the reasoning behind the decision by taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, November 28.
In his tweet, he claimed that the South African government is "killing white people," and allowing farms, which are the heritage of the children of the settlers of Dutch, French, and German descent, to be taken away.
Moreover, Trump made it clear that if he decides so, South Africa will not be welcome at the 2026 G20 Miami summit. Additionally, he declared that the US would immediately withdraw all financial aid and subsidies from Pretoria.
Trump points to alleged human rights abuses faced by Afrikaners and other settlers
In a lengthy post on X, Donald Trump wrote, "The United States did not attend the G20 in South Africa, because the South African Government refuses to acknowledge or address the horrific Human Right Abuses endured by Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers."
He added, "To put it more bluntly, they are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them."

Going after the media for an alleged attempt at suppressing the "genocide," Trump wrote, "Perhaps, worst of all, the soon to be out of business New York Times and the Fake News Media won’t issue a word against this genocide. That’s why all the Liars and Pretenders of the Radical Left Media are going out of business!"
Trump says US is going to stop all payments and subsidies to South Africa
Donald Trump also accused South Africa of not allowing a senior representative from the American Embassy, whom he said was present at the closing ceremony of the summit, to take over the G20 Presidency.
Seeing this as a flagrant breach of protocol, he made a broad social media announcement of a diplomatic response.
"Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year. South Africa has demonstrated to the World they are not a country worthy of Membership anywhere, and we are going to stop all payments and subsidies to them, effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the POTUS said.
Trump's move is accompanied by general charges that he has constantly alleged the White minority to be ill-treated in South Africa, among which are accusations of genocide against White farmers. The South African government has denied the claims, and even White leaders within the country have dismissed them.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, reacting to Trump's declaration, described the decision as "regrettable" and pointed out that his administration has been consistently engaged in resetting and stabilizing diplomatic relations with the US.
On the issue of reportedly refusing to hand over the G20 gavel to the US, a statement issued by Ramaphosa’s office said, "As the United States was not present at the summit, instruments of the G20 presidency were duly handed over to a US Embassy official at the Headquarters of South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation."
