WASHINGTON, DC: During a tense Oval Office meeting, Donald Trump yelled at Susie Wiles, furious over the GOP’s disastrous showing in the 2026 midterms. In front of his staff, he ordered Wiles to leave immediately. That night, she resigned. After four years guiding Trump’s path back to the White House and managing his team, her time was up.

The Daily Mail reported that Wiles asked to stay until February to help with the transition, but Trump shot her down. She’d even arranged a Camp David meeting with top White House officials and her allies, hoping for one last chance to keep her job. Once she left, though, the meeting was delayed and then scrapped entirely.

Trump reportedly shouted at Susie Wiles during Oval Office meeting

Four sources familiar with the confrontation told the Daily Mail that Trump berated Wiles over the Republican losses during a meeting with other aides on Thursday afternoon. One source close to the president said, “He exploded at her.”

A White House source said Trump kept yelling about the election results up until Wiles walked out. Two other sources claim he ordered her to leave the meeting altogether.

Dan Scavino, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and Morgan DeWitt-Snow, who’s tightly aligned with Wiles and runs the personnel office, were both in the room. DeWitt-Snow looked visibly rattled after everything went down and, according to one source, left to find Wiles somewhere else in the West Wing.

But a White House official pushed back, saying Trump never raised his voice at Wiles: “He would never yell at Susie.”

Wiles already knew her job was in jeopardy. On Thursday night, she met with Trump and resigned before he had a chance to fire her. Trump didn't accept her resignation right away; he told her they’d talk more about it later. The next morning, Wiles was back in the Oval Office, pressing him to make a decision.

She asked for some extra time, hoping to stay on until February, but Trump insisted she leave sooner. Friday ended up being her last day.

Susie Wiles reportedly planned Camp David meeting as blame game intensified

According to the Daily Mail, Wiles planned a meeting at Camp David for Saturday, even though Trump was supposed to be in Florida. She invited White House officials and aides loyal to her. Two sources said the meeting’s main goal was to figure out how she could make it through the week and hold onto her position.

Wiles caught a lot of heat for trying to pin the blame for the midterm losses on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Three sources said her allies wanted to spotlight Hegseth’s involvement in the Iran war as the reason for the GOP’s defeat.

A senior Pentagon official put it bluntly: “Susie was trying to push out Pete” to avoid taking the fall for the election results. Meanwhile, a Trump insider said advisers kept warning the president that Wiles’s team was leaking stories about Hegseth to the media.

One former Trump official went so far as to call Wiles the main leaker. Critics were quick to point out that her political machine burned through nearly half a billion dollars, yet Republicans still lost both chambers of Congress.

Wiles's supporters argued she did a good job controlling what information got to Trump. They also pointed out that some critics simply didn't like the boundaries she set.

On Friday, Trump said Stephen Miller would step in as chief of staff starting Monday. He mentioned Wiles would join his political team and applauded her contributions.

Wiles confirmed Friday was her final day, saying her time serving Trump in the White House was the honor of a lifetime.
