WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump drew attention not for words, but for what he wore: two lapel pins that quickly became a talking point from his meeting at the White House on Friday, January 9.

One was a classic American flag pin, while the other was a playful custom design he called a 'Happy Trump'.

The president explained that the pin was a gift and shared its meaning.

Trump was meeting with oil industry executives at the White House to talk about prospects for investing in Venezuela’s oil sector and shaping the future of oil development there.

Trump pairs ‘Happy Trump’ pin with traditional American flag pin

While addressing the press in the East Room of the White House, Trump caught attention with a small, brightly colored pin worn just beneath his standard American flag lapel pin.

The accessory appeared to be a cartoon-style likeness of Trump in a navy suit and red tie.

Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy noticed the unusual accessory and asked the president about it.

Doocy asked, “I see the American flag lapel pin. What is the other lapel pin?”

Holding up the pin, Trump explained, “Somebody gave me this. You know what that is? That’s called a ‘Happy Trump.’”

He added with his signature humor, “Consider the fact that I’m never happy. I’m never satisfied. I’ll never be satisfied until we make America great again. But we’re getting pretty close. Somebody gave it to me, so I put it on.”

The brief exchange with the press quickly drew attention online, with users buzzing over the playful pin and the president’s sense of humor.

Trump talks with industry leaders on the future of Venezuelan oil

Trump hosted top oil industry executives at the White House to encourage them to consider investing in Venezuela’s vast oil reserves and infrastructure.

He spent more than an hour and a half listening as company leaders outlined their plans and discussed the challenges of making long‑term investments in the country. The session included senior executives from Exxon, ConocoPhillips and Shell.

Trump highlighted that Venezuela’s interim government has authorized the United States to refine and sell up to 50 million barrels of crude oil. He also suggested that the US would offer security guarantees to those US companies that are willing to help rebuild the energy sector; he made clear that this would not involve US troops on the ground.
