MILWAUKEE. WISCONSIN: GOP nominee Donald Trump was dismissive of brain injuries suffered by US soldiers during his presidency and claimed they suffered a headache instead, while fielding questions from reporters at a campaign event in Milwaukee on Tuesday, October 1.

According to Raw Story, Trump reacted to Iran striking Israel earlier in the day, claiming it would not have happened had he remained in the White House.

However, Iran did act in a similar way during his presidency when they launched a missile attack on US troops in 2020, in retaliation for a US operation that assassinated their general Qasem Suleimani.

Donald Trump touts being tough regarding Middle East policies

A reporter questioned Donald Trump on Tuesday if he felt that he "should have been tougher on Iran after they had launched ballistic missiles in 2020 on US forces in Iraq, leaving more than 100 soldiers injured?"

"So first of all, injured. What does injured mean? You mean because they had a headache. Because the bombs never hit the fort," responded Trump, sparking the controversy.

"So, just so you understand, there was nobody ever tougher on Iraq. They had no money with me, they would have made any deal with me," he continued.

"I would have had a deal made within — literally, I would have had a deal made within one week after the election."

Trump's claim has been refuted by a Pentagon report from the time, which stated 109 troops were injured, with many of them suffering traumatic brain injuries.

The former president still maintained, "We suffered no casualties."

Internet slams Donald Trump for his comments

Netizens reacting to Donald Trump's statement on the social media platform X called him out for "downplaying the injuries" suffered by the US troops. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"A commander-in-chief downplaying, our military members' injuries? How can anyone that served, or is serving, ever vote for this man?" questioned a user incredulously.

"One more proof if needed that Trump hates the military," noted another.

"He deserves the hell he’s going to," wrote a third.

"He did jack s**t the entire four years he was president, but if we would’ve given him just one more week everything would have been solved," jibed a fourth.

"Donald Trump s**ting on US soldiers is a feature, not a bug," quipped another user.

"This is so offensive and people who absurdly claim ownership of the word 'patriot' are going to vote for this imbecile!?! Trump doesn’t have a patriotic cell in his body and he has frequently insulted and mocked those who serve the nation. No Republican should ever vote for him!!" exclaimed a sixth.
