WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump's presidential debate took a drastic turn when he boldly asserted that Joe Biden is responsible for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The former president promised should he win in November, he would have the conflict “settled” even before taking office.

“I will have that war settled between [Vladimir] Putin and [Volodymyr] Zelensky as president-elect,” Trump declared. “Before I take office on Jan 20, I’ll have that war settled.” The 78-year-old did not elaborate on his strategy but seized the opportunity to take jabs at Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Every time Zelensky comes to this country he walks away with $60 billion,” Trump quipped. “He’s the greatest salesman ever.”

Aligning himself with Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin, Trump claimed that their relationship kept peace in the Middle East and Europe during his term.

Biden, 81, fired back, labeling Putin a war criminal and slamming Trump for suggesting at a rally that Russia should “do whatever the hell they want.”

“The fact is that Putin is a war criminal,” Biden said. “He wants all of Ukraine. That’s what he wants. And then you think he’ll stop there? Do you think he’ll stop if he takes Ukraine? What do you think happens to Poland, Belarus? What do you think happens to those NATO countries?”

Trump didn't stop there, blaming Biden for the Oct 7 massacre in Israel last year, which sparked a war in Gaza and led to over 37,500 Palestinian deaths. Trump claimed this would not have happened “in a million years” under his watch.

He also accused Biden of being too lenient on Iran, suggesting that this emboldened Hamas to attack Israel. Trump criticized Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, arguing it showed US weakness and emboldened Putin to invade Ukraine.

“You had no terror at all under my administration,” Trump boasted. “This place, the whole world is blowing up under him.”

Netizens react to Donald Trump claims

A social media user tweeted, "Bros gonna make Putin and Zelenksy kiss and everything will be ok again."

Another added, "Vote for Trump end the Ukraine war."

A third claimed, "Trump speaks beautifully. But will he keep his promise? Will the US have enough presidential powers to stop arming Ukraine?"

"Trump will give Ukraine to putin to earn his praise," said a user.

Another said, "Liar trump."
