WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump issued a direct rebuke of Democratic leaders on Saturday, May 2, calling those who oppose his election security measures "human garbage" and demanding that Senate Republicans terminate the filibuster.

Trump's comments were triggered by Sen Chuck Schumer’s announcement that former Attorney General Eric Holder would join a Democratic task force to oversee the 2026 midterms, a move the president views as a strategic effort to block his legislative agenda.

Trump targets Eric Holder and other Democrats

The dispute centers on the SAVE America Act, which seeks to end most mail-in voting and require documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration.

Trump characterized the involvement of Holder and other Democratic figures as a deliberate attempt to interfere with voter integrity.

"So ironic that Cryin’ Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are hiring SLEAZEBAGS like Barack Hussein Obama’s Crooked former Attorney General, Eric Holder, and others of that ilk, to look into Voter Integrity, when this same group of Human Garbage RIGGED the 2020 Presidential Election," Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump calls on Republicans to 'terminate' Senate filibuster

Trump then urged Senate Republicans to dismantle the filibuster rule to ensure his election safeguards are passed before the midterms.

He argued that the current 60-vote threshold allows the minority to obstruct vital protections for the American public. "GET TOUGH REPUBLICANS — THEY’RE COMING, AND THEY’RE COMING FAST!" Trump wrote. "They’re no good for our Country, they almost destroyed it, and we don’t want to let that happen again!"

The Republican leader described his opponents as "highly dishonest people who are, in many ways, treasonous, in that they are trying to destabilize the United States of America in what, some would call, a War."

He concluded that "Republicans must TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and approve all of the necessary Safeguards we need for Elections."

The president’s demand for action has gained traction following the alleged assassination attempt against him at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Sen Ron Johnson has since echoed the need to scrap the filibuster, specifically to ensure the Department of Homeland Security is fully funded.

Johnson told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that the country is in a "moment of national danger" and cannot afford legislative gridlock.

As Schumer claims the SAVE Act would disenfranchise millions, Trump remains firm that ending the filibuster is the only way to "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" and secure the 2026 elections.
