WASHINGTON, DC: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced on Monday, January 5, that he would not be contesting for re-election after the end of his current term.
In the statement posted on X, he cited one of the reasons behind his resignation being Donald Trump and his allies wanting to make Minnesota a “colder, meaner place,” while seemingly referring to the fraud exposé conducted by YouTuber Nick Shirley.
President Donald Trump reacted to the same in a Truth Social post, calling Walz a corrupt governor. He claimed that Walz was leaving office because he was caught red-handed, along with the likes of Ilhan Omar.
Trump targets Tim Walz for destroying Minnesota
Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post in response to Tim Walz’s dropping his 2026 re-election bid that the corrupt governor would leave before the end of his term and would not be running for office again after being caught in the act of fraud.
He added that Walz, Ilhan, and their other Somali friends stole “tens of billions of taxpayer dollars,” and said that he was certain that the truth would prevail.
“They will reveal a seriously unscrupulous and rich group of SLIMEBALLS,” Donald Trump alleged online.
He further criticized Tim Walz, noting that he had “destroyed” the state of Minnesota. Trump criticized some of his other critics, such as JB Pritzker, Gavin Newsom, and Kathy Hochul, and said that they were more dishonest and incompetent than Walz.
Tim Walz criticizes Trump in his exit post
Tim Walz’s X post announcing his exit from the re-election race took shots at several people, including President Donald Trump and independent journalist Nick Shirley.
He wrote that for the past few years, an organized crime group had wanted to take advantage of Minnesota, and while the government continued to fight against that, another enemy popped up.
“We now see an organized group of political actors seeking to take advantage of the crisis,” he wrote.
Walz claimed that Trump and his allies wanted to poison the people in Minnesota against each other and take away the authenticity and fundamental parts of it. He said they had already started to take away their tax dollars, which were meant to help families in Walz’s state.
As he discussed the fraud scandal in Minnesota, he said that Republicans would continue to make their battles harder.
“We’ve got conspiracy theorist right-wing YouTubers breaking into daycare centers and demanding access to our children,” he claimed.
