CLIVE, IOWA: Donald Trump did not hold back while criticizing Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during his rally on Tuesday, January 27. He said, “She comes from my country, that's a disaster.” He stressed that migrants coming to the United States must love the country and take pride in it.
Trump warned that those who fail to show respect for the country would not be allowed entry. He then pointed to Omar as an example while praising his administration’s border enforcement efforts.
He also emphasized the need to maintain law and order, particularly along the southern border, as he addressed supporters ahead of the midterm elections.
Trump targets Ilhan Omar on border, crime
Donald Trump emphasized the need for strict border enforcement and law and order during his rally, highlighting what he described as his administration’s efforts to secure the southern border.
"We need Law and Order, and we have the lowest crime rate now in the history of our country, that's good. What have we even done? And, as everyone is aware, we have totally and completely closed the southern border with little Fanfare, but tremendous success with the southern border is closed. Nobody's coming in."
He stressed that entry into the United States must be legal and that newcomers should show loyalty and love for the country. "Nobody is able to come into a country, except for those who come in legally."
"We want to have people come in legally, we need people to come in legally, but they have to show that they can love our country, not aid our country," he added.
Trump said that even those arriving legally must respect the nation’s laws and values.
"They have to show that they're not going to blow up our shopping centers, blow up our Farms, kill people. They're coming in legally, but they cannot come in unless they come in legally into our country, and we're letting some great people come in. They have to show that they can love our country."
He then took a pointed jab at Ilhan Omar, contrasting her with his vision of patriotic immigrants.
"They have to be proud, not like Ilhan Omar. Did you see what? Did you see that wise guy, you know, she's always talking about the Constitution, provides me with the following: the Constitution."
Trump continued his criticism of Omar while emphasizing his approach to national security.
"She comes from my country, that's a disaster. So, probably it's considered. I think it's not even a country. Only has the governor, I don't think it does. They got one thing - Pirates."
Soon after Trump targeted Omar while praising his border crackdown, the Minnesota congresswoman faced a security scare at a town hall in Minneapolis later the same day. A man suddenly approached her on stage and threw an unknown substance using a syringe, startling both Omar and the audience. The incident happened while she was speaking and calling for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over ICE-related deaths.
The disturbing episode raised concerns across political circles. Leaders, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz blamed Trump’s past remarks about Omar, saying such rhetoric can encourage dangerous behavior. "
Trump renews attacks on Ilhan Omar
Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized Representative Ilhan Omar, a Somali-born member of the House of Representatives, in remarks that have drawn widespread attention.
In recent months, he has used social media posts and public statements to say she “should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia,” and has claimed she comes from “one of the absolutely worst countries in the World.”
Trump has also referred to Omar and other Somali immigrants as “garbage” and suggested Somalis should “go back to where they came from.”
