WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump just told Maryland Gov Wes Moore to keep his jogging shoes in the closet.

The 79-year-old commander-in-chief blasted Baltimore as a “crime disaster” on Sunday, August 24, saying he wouldn’t show up for a public safety stroll until Moore got the city under control. Trump even dangled the threat of pulling federal cash earmarked for the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Wes Moore blasts president’s crime remarks as ‘purely performative’

The feud kicked off last week when Maryland Gov Wes Moore invited President Trump to visit Baltimore “on a date of your choosing,” after saying he was insulted by “personal insults from the Oval Office.” Moore had been critical of Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops into Washington, DC, for policing duties.

In recent remarks, Trump branded Baltimore as “so far gone” when it comes to crime.

Moore fired back on 'Face the Nation' with Margaret Brennan on August 24, dismissing Trump’s comments as “purely performative.”

“While the president is spending his time from the Oval Office making jabs and attacks at us, there are people actually on the ground doing the work who know what supports would actually work to continue to bring down crime. But it’s falling on deaf ears of the president of the United States,” the 46-year-old governor said.

The White House also weighed in, pointing to a US News & World Report article ranking Baltimore as the fourth worst city in the nation for crime and murders, trailing only Memphis, Oakland, and St Louis.

Trump wants Wes Moore to 'clean up this crime disaster'

On his Truth Social account, President Trump unloaded on Maryland Gov Wes Moore’s “nasty and provocative” invitation.

“As president, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster before I go there for a ‘walk,’” Trump fumed. “Wes Moore’s record on Crime is a very bad one, unless he fudges his figures on crime like many of the other ‘Blue States’ are doing.”

He continued, “But if Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in LA, I will send in the ‘troops,’ which is being done in nearby DC, and quickly clean up the Crime.”

Trump then boasted about his DC crackdown. “After only one week, there is NO CRIME AND NO MURDER IN DC! When it is like that in Baltimore, I will proudly ‘walk the streets’ with the failing, because of crime, governor of Maryland," he declared.

The president even threatened Baltimore’s federal funding, hinting that he might reconsider aid for rebuilding the Key Bridge, which collapsed last year. He also accused Moore of lying about receiving the Bronze Star, even though the governor was officially awarded one in 2024.

“Stop talking and get to work, Wes,” Trump wrote. “I’ll then see you on the streets!!!”

Wes Moore mocks Trump as ‘president bone spurs,’ touts crime drop stats

Wes Moore responded by mocking President Trump’s age and military record.

“President Bone Spurs will do anything to get out of walking—even if that means spouting off more lies about the progress we’re making on public safety in Maryland,” Moore wrote. “Hey Donald, we can get you a golf cart if that makes things easier. Just let my team know.”

Moore also touted his own record, noting that statewide homicides have dropped 20% since his inauguration. In Baltimore specifically, police data shows that in the first six months of 2025, homicides fell 28% and non-fatal shootings dropped 19% compared to last year, according to CBS News.

Trump’s Baltimore rant came just weeks after he deployed the National Guard to Washington, DC, to combat what he has called an “epidemic of crime.”
