WASHINGTON, DC: The war situation between Iran and the US, which appeared to be improving just days ago, has once again grabbed headlines, but for all the wrong reasons.

After early signs of ‘nearing a permanent ceasefire deal,’ the situation took a sharp turn in recent days, with both nations warning each other of consequences in the event of escalation.

However, the latest update from President Donald Trump indicates that there might be a new deal soon.

Trump reviews Iran deal proposal amid tensions

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, May 2, Trump said that a potential deal is being discussed with Iran. While he has not seen the full details yet, the president plans to review the “exact wording” while on Air Force One en route to Miami International Airport.

"They told me about the concept of the deal. They're going to give me the exact wording now," Trump said. "... We're doing very well with regard to Iran. Again, they want to make a deal. They are decimated."

Highlighting the scale of damage to Iran during the recent war, Trump said it would take them around 20 years to rebuild, even if America leaves “right now.”

"But we're not leaving right now. We're going to do it so nobody has to go back in two years or five years."

Trump highlights Iran leadership crisis concerns

Further discussing another crisis that Iran is currently dealing with, Trump added that the regime is "having a hard time figuring out who their leader is.”

He also expressed the possibility that the US could restart military strikes on targets.

He later posted on Truth Social, noting that Iran has “not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years."

Trump doubts Iran peace deal proposal

Trump said that he will review a new plan from Iran, as Tehran reportedly sent a 14-point peace proposal. While the president said he would review the proposal, he “can’t imagine that it would be acceptable.”

“I will soon be reviewing the plan that Iran has just sent to us, but can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity and the World, over the last 47 years,” Trump’s Truth Social post read.

While speaking to reporters on Saturday, May 2, Trump also pushed back on his earlier remark in which he had signaled not making a deal with Iran.

Trump said, “Frankly, maybe we’re better off not making a deal at all. Do you want to know the truth? Because we can’t let this thing go on.” “I didn’t say that,” Trump said.

“I said that if we left right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild. But we’re not leaving right now,” he told reporters before departing from Palm Beach to Miami.
