HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY: President Donald Trump turned an interruption at his Kentucky rally on Saturday, October 17, into a joke about a protester’s mother, suggesting she would punish her son for disrupting the president’s speech, even if he had been paid to do it.

The incident unfolded in Highland Heights, northern Kentucky, where security personnel removed a man who was shouting during the event.

Trump accused the demonstrator of being paid to protest, then imagined what would happen when the young man returned home and told his mother what he had done.

Trump told the crowd that demonstrators were being paid $250 to interrupt his rallies, though he offered no evidence for the claim during the remarks.

“They get paid to do that. They pay them $250,” he said, before turning to the heckler’s family.

“The mother, especially if she’s a Kentucky mother, she slaps the hell out of them and says, ‘I voted for that man. Don’t you ever do that again.’”

The remark drew loud cheers from the crowd.

Trump continued the imagined conversation, joking that the protester might explain that he had earned $250, only to face the possibility of jail and lasting consequences.

“How stupid. How stupid are they?” he asked.

Despite his criticism, Trump appeared to hesitate over whether the demonstrator should face legal consequences.

He described the heckler as a young man and told the audience he did not think his life should be ruined by pressing charges.

“I don’t think we should ruin his life and press charges, right? Just let him go,” Trump said, before adding, “Oh, no? Let’s think about it.”

Ghanaian immigrant praises Trump

The rally also featured a markedly different moment, as an immigrant from Ghana expressed strong support for the president and his policies.

Speaking directly to the camera, the man said he had followed Trump while living in Ghana and credited the president with changing his life.

“Mr president, you don't know how much I love you. I followed you in Ghana. You changed my life,” he said.

He called Trump “the greatest leader of our time” and added: “I want you to know, you are doing the right thing.”

The man ended his message by expressing his affection for the president and offering a religious blessing: “I love you, Mr president. May God be with you.”

In a separate message at the rally, he criticized Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, saying her conduct in the United States was unacceptable and that she should apologize to Trump.

Trump was holding a rally in the city of Highland Heights to boost Republican turnout ahead of the midterm elections.
