Donald Trump outlines plans for a privately funded White House ballroom

Trump stated that the ballroom is being built with “all private donations and funding (ZERO cost to the American taxpayer!).” He expressed confidence that it “will be, at its completion, the most beautiful and spectacular Ballroom anywhere in the World!”

Pointing to the long history of the residence, Trump noted, “It is something that has been needed and desired at the White House for over 150 years, but something which no other President was equipped to do.” He added, “But I am, and as long as we are going to do it, we are going to do it RIGHT.”

Trump compared the project to a historic milestone, saying, “It will be a magnificent addition to the White House, the most important since the building of the West Wing!”

The White House released a list of 37 private contributors, with total funding estimated between $200 million and $350 million. The list spans major technology companies, cryptocurrency firms, energy and industrial corporations, philanthropic foundations, media and communications companies, and high-net-worth individuals. No foreign donors were included. Some contributors have chosen to remain unnamed until required by financial disclosure rules.

White House architect James McCrery II questions Trump’s 90,000 sq ft addition

The 90,000 square-foot addition has created tension with White House architect James McCrery II, who cautioned that the new structure could overshadow the 55,000 square-foot White House. McCrery emphasized a key principle: an addition should never dwarf the main building.

Despite the disagreements, described by a White House official as “constructive dialogue” between Trump and McCrery, the administration remains committed to the project.

“It’s not going to cost taxpayers a dime,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt during a briefing, adding, “You’ve seen the model in the Oval Office. This is going to be a magnificent addition to the White House for many years to come, and it’s not costing taxpayers anything.”

The Trump administration has not disclosed specific details about the structure’s height. The ballroom is also expected to house a suite of offices previously located in the East Wing.
