WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has once again made headlines, this time with a bold suggestion: appointing billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk to a unique position within his hypothetical White House cabinet.

The former president, during an interview on Fox News’ 'Sunday Morning Futures,' proposed creating a new role, the "Secretary of Cost-Cutting," and expressed confidence in Musk's ability to streamline government spending, as per New York Post.

In a conversation with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, Trump praised Musk’s business acumen and cost-cutting abilities.

The former president, who is running again as the GOP’s nominee in the 2024 presidential race, emphasized Musk’s potential value in the government.

“He’s a great business guy, and he’s a great cost-cutter,” Trump said of Musk, one of the world's richest men and CEO of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter).

According to Trump, Musk claimed, “I could cut costs without affecting anybody,” a statement that no doubt piqued the former president’s interest as he looks toward reducing government spending if he returns to the Oval Office.

Though Musk isn’t interested in holding a formal cabinet position, Trump said the tech mogul is enthusiastic about focusing on efficiency and streamlining operations. “We’ll have a new position: Secretary of Cost-Cutting. Elon wants to do that, and we have incredible people,” Trump explained, emphasizing Musk’s unique qualifications due to his vast business empire.

“He’s running a big business. He can’t just say, ‘I think I’ll go into the Cabinet.’ Other people can. He can’t, but Elon’s a little bit different in that sense.”

Trump also hinted at Musk’s futuristic ambitions, stating, “He’s made me a promise to get to Mars before the end of my administration, which will be long before, hopefully, China or Russia.”

While Musk has often made headlines for his innovative technologies, he has also become more vocal about his political preferences in recent years.

In the same interview, Trump noted Musk’s concerns about the future of the country, especially if Vice President Kamala Harris were to assume the presidency.

Musk’s alliance with Trump has grown more visible, particularly on the campaign trail. Earlier in October, the billionaire joined Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, marking his first appearance alongside the former president during his 2024 campaign.

According to Trump, Musk’s presence in Pennsylvania wasn't a one-time event. The tech magnate will continue to stump for the GOP candidate in this key swing state as the election approaches. “He’s actually campaigning because he says, ‘If we don’t win, we’re not going to have a country,’” Trump revealed.
