WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Oran Routh, son of Ryan Wesley Routh, the alleged gunman arrested over an apparent second assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump, claimed that his father was not a violent person and has never known him to own a firearm.

Ryan, a 58-year-old from Hawaii, was reportedly spotted at the fences outside the Trump International Golf Club in Florida by the Secret Service, armed with a scoped AK-47 rifle. He also reportedly set up a GoPro camera on the fence as a part of his sniper's nest with the apparent intent of recording the shooting.

Trump was playing the fifth hole, 500 to 500 yards away from the shooter when he was spotted and engaged by federal agents. He escaped the scene but was captured while traveling north on I-95 toward Martin County.

The incident marked the second attempt on Trump's life in a span of about two months. Trump faced gunfire speaking at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, back in July, where a bullet managed to graze his right ear.

Oran Routh's observations on his father

The Daily Mail reached out to Oran Routh, 35, for his comments on his father's arrest for allegedly attempting to assassinate the GOP nominee shortly after the incident, which took place at around 1.30 pm ET.

"This was the first I heard about it," expressed Oran, asking, "Was my father shot or injured?"

He stated that his father hates Trump as "every reasonable person does. I don't like Trump either." However, he insisted that Ryan was not a violent person and could not believe that he would try to take out a former president. He later shared that Ryan works as a general contractor, building small homes in Hawaii, and previously owned a roofing company.

"He's my dad and all he's had is a couple (of) traffic tickets, as far as I know," Oran shared. "That's crazy. I know my dad and love my dad, but that's nothing like him."

He revealed that Ryan went to Ukraine to provide aid after Russia's invasion in 2022, even though he did not have any military experience. Oran did not know his father was in Florida, saying, "He said he was at the beach, but I thought that meant the outer banks in Hawaii. I didn't ask him for more information because we've had a falling out. We've grown apart."

"He's not a violent person. He's a hard worker and a great dad. He's a great dude, a nice guy, and has worked his whole f**king life," continued Oran.

When asked if Ryan owned a gun, he replied, "Not that I know of. I've never known him to own a gun or known him to do anything bats*** like this."

Oran later sent a rambling text to the publication, stating, "I hate this game every four years, and think that we all do, and if my father wants to be a martyr to how broken and disassociated the process has become from the real problems and practical solutions, then that's his choice. I'm not saying that's what he's done or what he's about, that's just my own rant being fed up with it all for my entire adult life."

"South Park said it best, every 4 years we're forced to choose between a turd sandwich and a giant douche, and it all stays f****d in the same ways by different degrees, and we're exhausted and embarrassed by it all," he added.

Internet calls Oran Routh a 'red flag'

Netizens reacting to the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) called out Oran Routh as a 'red flag' for his comments which appeared defensive of his father Ryan. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"Oran Routh doesn’t realize he just exposed his own father as a raging TDS lunatic. No reasonable person hates Donald Trump," wrote a user.

"Looks like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree huh?" jibed another.

"His son needs a red flag," stated one user.

"Sounds like Ryan Routh’s son needs to be under surveillance. He’s mouthing the same deranged rhetoric as his dad. It’s TDS to the extreme," echoed someone else.

"These are the insane radicals that need to be institutionalized," expressed one un.
