WASHINGTON, DC: Former US congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of hypocrisy over her recent remarks on JD Vance, Donald Trump’s newly announced running mate.

Gabbard labeled Harris a "self-serving politician who should not be in office", sharply criticizing her for questioning Vance's loyalty and commitment to the country.

In a video posted on X, Tulsi Gabbard challenged Kamala Harris’ claims that Vance would serve only Donald Trump and not the nation.

Gabbard pointed out Vance’s military service, noting that he enlisted in the Marine Corps after the 9/11 attacks and was deployed to Iraq in 2005. "Was Kamala Harris willing to put her own life on the line in service to our country at any time in the past?" she questioned.

"Shortly after President Trump announced that JD Vance is gonna be his running mate in this election, Kamala Harris issued this scathing warning to the American people, saying, make no mistake, JD Vance will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country. The audacity that she has to say this is off the charts. She's talking about JD Vance, someone who enlisted in the Marine Corps after the terrorist attack on 9/11," said Gabbard.

"Someone who deployed to Iraq in 2005, the same year that I was there, during the height of that war, putting his own life on the line in service to our country. Was Kamala Harris willing to put her own life on the line in service to our country at any time in the past? Is she now? No. Kamala Harris is driven by her own political ambition. She's a self-serving politician who should not be in office," she concluded.

What did Kamala Harris say about JD Vance?

Tulsi Gabbard’s comments come in response to Kamala Harris' assertion that JD Vance would be a "rubber stamp" for Trump’s "extreme" agenda.

In a video, Harris criticized Vance for his stance on the 2020 election certification and his position on abortion and IVF protections, accusing him of supporting Trump’s radical plans, including the controversial Project 2025.

The VP said, "Donald Trump has picked his new running mate: JD Vance. Trump looked for someone he knew would be a rubber stamp for his extreme agenda."

She further said, "Make no mistake: JD Vance will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country."

Harris also criticized him for supporting the national abortion ban and voting against IVF protections in the Senate.

She stated, "If elected, he will help advance the extreme Project 2025 plan for a second Trump term, which would target critical programs like Head Start and Medicare. But we are not going to let that happen."

Meanwhile, Vance, who officially accepted his vice-presidential nomination on Wednesday, July 17, framed himself as a "working-class boy" whose journey from poverty to politics exemplifies his commitment to serving all Americans. His acceptance speech portrayed "Trump as America's last best hope--to restore what is lost- which, if lost, may never be found, again".

"From Iraq to Afghanistan, from the financial crisis to the Great Recession, from open borders to strengthening wages, the people who govern this country have failed and failed again," Vance added.

Internet reacts to Kamala Harris' criticism of JD Vance

As the debate over JD Vance’s vice presidential nomination heats up, social media is buzzing with strong reactions.

Some social media users praised Vance as a groundbreaking choice, noting his military service, and took aim at Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning her commitment to the country and her record of achievement.

A social media user tweeted, "JD Vance is a great pick for the job. Will be the first ever Marine to serve as VP. I look forward to seeing what he can do."

Another said, "@VP is only in it for herself! What has SHE done for our country other than give us a whole lotta word salads. She’s embarrassing!"

A third tweeted, "She wouldn’t know sacrifice to this country, nor would most all of the democrats."

"Maybe Vance has changed from loyal-to-country marine to loyal-to-Trump running mate. You know, how he changed from "You're Hitler" to "Trump is the best thing since sliced bread," read a tweet.

"That's some nerve to say a soldier who has served his country during wartime will not be loyal to his country," penned an individual.
