WASHINGTON, DC:  Former White House attorney Ty Cobb criticized Judge Aileen Cannon for denying special counsel Jack Smith’s gag order request in former President Donald Trump’s classified documents case.

Cobb described the decision as “dangerous,” highlighting concerns about its implications in an interview on CNN on Wednesday.

Cobb questioned the seriousness of the situation calling it "ludicrous" and "ridiculous."

“I mean, it’s ludicrous. It’s ridiculous, and … it’s dangerous and it’s incendiary. And not to take that seriously and to toss it out because she didn’t like the way they conferred,” Cobb said according to The Hill.

Judge Cannon rejected Smith’s request last week to limit Trump’s speech, which followed Trump’s false claim that law enforcement had the power to assassinate him.

Smith’s team argued that Trump’s comments posed a risk to law enforcement officers involved in the case, many of whom are expected to testify.

The judge stated that Smith’s team failed to meaningfully reach out to Trump’s attorneys about the gag order request. Both parties are required to confer before filing motions.

“Conferring doesn’t require doing it in a proper form or meeting her standard,” Cobb stated. “It requires talking to the other side, and they did and they mentioned it in the papers that they had conferred and Trump’s team didn’t agree."

Cobb’s remarks came shortly after Cannon abruptly changed the proceeding schedule for the classified documents case.

She set a hearing for June 21 to address Trump’s motion to dismiss the indictment, which claims Smith was illegally appointed.

Cobb suggested Cannon’s actions were deliberate delays. “Judge Cannon is kicking the can down the road as long as she can, delaying both the trial and the process. This is clearly a palpable bias on her part,” Cobb said.

Cobb said. “And when I say purpose, it is purposeful now; it’s not mere ineptitude. This is clearly a palpable bias on her part, and I think I heard one former Florida judge say the same thing earlier today.”

Ex-attorney Ty Cobb's criticism of Judge Aileen Cannon sparks a flurry of online reactions

The classified case trial was initially set to kick off on May 20, but Judge Cannon indefinitely postponed the start date, citing the various legal arguments she needed to first consider.

The postponement handed Trump’s legal team a win as it seeks to push the former president’s trials after the 2024 presidential elections.

One commenter mocked Cobb, saying, "Ty Cobb must have skipped all those pesky Constitutional Law classes because a fourth grader knows more than he does."

Another commented on Judge Cannon’s perceived bias, stating, "And Cannon keeps ruling for this demented criminal Trump because she is part of his MAGA cult. She must be removed from the bench."

"Lies and Violence are all that MAGA has to offer," wrote one more. "Sour grapes from a terminated lawyer," added one more.

Others questioned Cobb’s realization of Trump’s nature. One user asked, "At what point did Ty Cobb realize that he worked for a psycho?"

Another called for drastic measures against Trump's supporters, writing, "MAGA needs to be declared a domestic terrorist network."
