UN greenlights Trump’s 'Board of Peace' to oversee Gaza’s post-war governance
WASHINGTON, DC: A US-led resolution at the United Nations Security Council on Monday, November 18, has paved the way for President Donald Trump’s proposed 'Board of Peace' to govern Gaza.
The resolution, which supports Trump’s 20-point peace plan, was backed by 13 countries, with Russia and China abstaining. Hamas strongly opposed the move, calling it a foreign imposition.
Trump celebrates UN approval of 'Board of Peace'
Members of the council approved the widely discussed drafted resolution while the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains in place.
The resolution, expected to include Trump’s 20-point peace plan, gained support from 13 countries, including the UK, France, and Somalia, with no nation voting against the proposal.
During the celebration event, Trump said, “Congratulations to the World on the incredible Vote of the United Nations Security Council, just moments ago, acknowledging and endorsing the BOARD OF PEACE."
Announcing his role and the composition of the board, he said, "It will be chaired by me, and include the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World.”
Highlighting the significance of the vote, he said, “This will go down as one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations, will lead to further Peace all over the World, and is a moment of true Historic proportion!”
Trump also expressed his gratitude to the supporting nations. He said, “Thank you to the United Nations, and all of the Countries on the UN Security Council, China, Russia, France, The United Kingdom, Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, South Korea, Pakistan, Panama, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Somalia.”
He also acknowledged additional supporters, saying, “Also thank you to those Countries that weren’t on this Committee, but strongly backed the effort, including Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkiye, and Jordan.”
Looking ahead, he added, “Many more exciting announcements, will be made in the coming weeks.”
Trump’s Gaza ‘Board of Peace’ outlines reconstruction, security overhaul
The board is designed to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and governance in the aftermath of the conflict.
The plan calls for the demilitarization of Hamas and includes the formation of a newly trained Palestinian police force to replace the current Hamas-run force.
An International Stabilisation Force (ISF) would also be established to support stability, with several countries contributing to its funding and operations.
A World Bank–backed trust fund will finance the extensive reconstruction effort. Hamas has completely rejected the plan, describing it as an “international guardianship mechanism” that infringes on Palestinian rights.
The group argued that granting the ISF the authority to disarm resistance factions removes its neutrality and effectively makes it a participant in the conflict. They also claimed that "Washington would permit Israel to use it as it sees fit."
The US has pledged to assist in safely returning Palestinians to their land, aiming to restore stability and prosperity in the region without the threat of war.
