‘Unbelievably duplicitous’: Trump turns on Iran after Tehran denies peace talk

Iran denied that any talks were planned between the two countries, saying it was only negotiating with Oman over the future of Strait of Hormuz

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump on Saturday, August 1, announced that he has suspended the strikes on Iran, provided a deal to end the months-long conflict is reached “rapidly”.

However, the calm failed to last even 48 hours, as Tehran sparked a strong reaction from the president with its remark that no peace talks are taking place between Washington and Tehran.

President Trump responded to Tehran’s rejection of his claim that US-Iran talks were set to restart Monday, calling the Iranian leadership “unbelievably duplicitous” and saying they had begged for talks.

Trump said Sunday that he called off massive strikes on Iran after Gulf allies and Tehran asked him to give diplomacy a chance. He also said US-Iran talks would resume Monday afternoon and that a “deal is imminent.”

Iran denied Monday that any talks were planned between the two countries, saying it was only negotiating with Oman over the future of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump, in a Truth Social post on Monday, August 3, said Iran first begs for a talk, and then they proudly say that no discussion is taking place.



"Iranian Leadership is unbelievably duplicitous! They ask for a meeting, some would say 'beg,' talks begin, with more scheduled in the immediate future, and they say, openly and proudly, that they're not having any discussions, that nothing is being talked about, and they're only dealing with 'Oman,’” Trump said in a post.

Trump further reiterated that nothing gets through Iran until the US lets it and pledged that he would not allow anything to get through Iran before a deal and total surrender.  

President also emphasized that Iran would never have nuclear power.

"Nothing gets through to Iran, unless we want it to, and nothing will get through, unless a Deal, or Total Surrender, is accomplished," he added.

"Whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking of a solution to a problem that they have caused, for decades. It is very simple, Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.

Iran says no US talks underway

Iran said on Monday that no talks were underway with the United States and there were no plans for any meetings, contradicting US President Donald Trump, who had cited talks.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, rejected the claim, saying no negotiations with the United States were taking place and no meetings were scheduled. Iran had no plans to host foreign delegations or send negotiators abroad in the coming days, he said.
