WASHINGTON, DC: Usha Vance opened up about her experience of being thrust into the spotlight in the run-up to the presidential election last year and being wholeheartedly accepted by the MAGA community in her first interview as the second lady of the United States, published by The Free Press on Tuesday, April 8.

An accomplished lawyer who has clerked for Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh before he joined SCOTUS, Usha insisted that the change was sudden, after her husband, Vice President JD Vance, was announced as the running mate of incumbent Donald Trump.

The itinerary for the visit was scaled back after a plan for a more extensive trip drew criticism from officials in Greenland and Denmark, which controls foreign and defence policy of the semiautonomous territory. Usha Vance comments on major changes in her life

According to Fox News, 39-year-old Usha came into the public eye following her appearance at the Republican National Convention in July 2024. She wore a cobalt-blue Badgley Mischka dress, with minimal make-up and no jewellery.

She reportedly did not consult with fashion designers before choosing the $495 dress for the major event. A spokesperson for Badgley Mischka claimed that Usha "must have purchased the frock on her own at retail."

"The day before JD was selected — I did not know he was going to be selected — I was working as a lawyer, and I had the wardrobe of a person with three children who likes to do things outdoors, who has a dog, who doesn’t like things to be too precious," expressed Usha.

"And then, a switch flipped, and it’s not like it came with a whole new wardrobe and stylist and everything," she said.

When asked "what it was like to be an Indian-American woman in MAGA Land—with all the blondes and Botox and facelifts, the low-cut blouses and nine-inch heels," Usha reportedly broke into a laugh.

"I'm laughing because it would be really hard for me to be blonde," she quipped. "That color would look totally absurd."

"For what it’s worth, my reception into this world — and I’m not from a particularly wealthy background, not from a very fashion-oriented background personally or professionally — has been really positive," added the second lady. "People don’t seem to care all that much what I look like."

She further spoke of changes in her family life, with her husband often attracting negative attention. Usha and her husband visited The Kennedy Center in Washington on March 13, where they were faced with hecklers. Recalling the incident, she observed, "I don’t think we anticipated that anyone would really notice... We just go to concerts, right?"

MAGA calls Usha Vance a 'class act'

While conservative netizens reacting to Usha Vance's interview on the social media platform Facebook hailed the second lady, some online users were not as welcoming. The following comments demonstrate the takes.

"She is a class act!!" wrote a person. "Educated, intelligent, beautiful & elegant lady with class character, and a true American patriot," shared another.

"Brilliant. Could not be more proud of our Second Lady," expressed a third. "Good to hear. She's welcomed by a cult," jibed a fourth.

"Lol meaning that they didn't 'accept' her before that!" chided a fifth.

"They’ll turn on you soon," warned yet another.
