Vance says Trump would endorse him for 2028 GOP nomination, declines to back Netanyahu

WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President JD Vance expressed hopes that if he runs for the presidential election in 2028, President Trump “would endorse” him. His remarks come amid speculation over whether he will announce a presidential bid.

During the same interview, Vance declined to endorse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for re-election in Israel’s October 27 election, taking a different approach from Trump, who had publicly backed the Israeli leader.

During an interview on Mark Halperin’s show 2WAY Tonight, JD Vance expressed confidence that Trump would endorse him if he decided to run in the 2028 presidential election.

“I think I would get his endorsement, but I also think there’s something to be said for people actually running their own race,” Vance said.

“And because the president’s endorsement is so dispositive, you could absolutely see a scenario where the president says, ‘You know what? We need to let like this race play out and not preemptively prejudge the results.’”

“Like sometimes you know media scrutiny, pressure, policy. I can be terrible at it, and that is the sort of thing that maybe you know so I don’t know,” he continued.

Vance said he had not spoken to Trump about a potential presidential run in 2028, adding that he believed the president would endorse him if he decided to enter the race.

Vance declines to endorse Netanyahu in Israeli election

A day after President Donald Trump extended his “complete and total endorsement” to existing Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, JD Vance declined to support the Israeli prime minister for the reelection in the October 27 poll.

“The president has the most influential endorsement in American or international political history,” Vance said during an interview with journalist Mark Halperin.

“I endorse American candidates, and that’s where I’m focused on the midterms,” Vance said, while traveling Monday to campaign for Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley of North Carolina. “So, I’m not getting involved in Israeli elections.”

Vance’s decision not to endorse Netanyahu contrasts with Trump’s public backing of the Israeli leader, although Vance did not explicitly oppose Netanyahu.

The decision comes at a sensitive time for US-Israel relations, amid broader debate over Washington’s role in Israeli politics and its relationship with the country’s leadership.

Vance previously campaigned for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán last spring, ahead of Hungary’s parliamentary election, which Orbán’s party subsequently lost.

Trump extends ‘complete and total endorsement’ to Netanyahu

Nine days before Israel’s October 27 election, Trump publicly endorsed Netanyahu, describing him as a “Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combating the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

In a post on his Truth Social, Trump writes in all caps that Netanyahu “WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

“Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition,” wrote Trump, “including that coming from even Israel, itself.”

Trump said Netanyahu has “endured and, in fact, he has thrived!”
