Pride Flag Raised at Stonewall Monument in Defiance of Trump Rule
A large pride flag was restored at the Stonewall National Monument, the first historic site in the United States dedicated to LGBTQ+ history located in New York, on Thursday, February 12, in defiance of a directive from US President Donald Trump. Under the federal directive, the National Park Service should only fly the US flag and the Department of the Interior flag, with the order prohibiting “non-agency flags and pennants.” The pride flag was removed from the Stonewall National Monument in the wake of the directive but New York officials vowed to restore the rainbow flag. Footage captured by Benedict Brook shows a crowd gathered for the event, with many displaying their own rainbow flags, as the pride flag was raised back into place.
