VALDOSTA, GEORGIA: JD Vance received an unexpectedly chilly reception during a campaign stop at Holt's Sweet Shop in Valdosta, Georgia, on Thursday, August 22.

The visit, part of his broader campaign tour, was quickly criticized due to an awkward exchange between Vance and an employee who did not want to be filmed, reported The Independent.

Upon entering the donut shop, Vance was greeted by an employee who immediately expressed discomfort with being recorded.

As cameras rolled, the Ohio senator remarked, “The zoo has come to town. Thank you for letting us come in here."

“Yes, sir,” replied the woman who firmly stated, “I don’t want to be on camera” as she saw people filming.

“She doesn’t want to be on film, guys, so just cut her out of anything,” Vance instructed.

Despite initial tension, Vance continued his conversation as he ordered two dozen donuts before introducing himself to the employee.

“I’m JD Vance. I’m running for vice president,” he said and the woman replied, "Okay."

Vance then asked the employees about their tenure at the shop. The employee who requested not to be filmed said she had been with Holts' Sweet Shop since July 2024 while another employee mentioned he had worked there for two years.

After another employee joined behind the counter, Vance asked each how long they had worked there.

“If you don’t want to be on film, you’re okay,” an unidentified individual can be heard telling the employee who asked not to be filmed.

After leaving the donut shop, Vance continued his campaign activities with a visit to Donald Trump's headquarters in Valdosta.

One user on X wrote, "Tell me you haven't ordered donuts before without telling me you have not ordered donuts before. Weird AF," and another tweeted, "I don't think JD Vance won her vote?" while someone remarked, "The 'okay' hits so hard."

"The man doesn't even know how to order donuts," a netizen commented, and an individual penned, "I love the "enthusiasm" on the server's face , yeah he won't vote for you JD."

Another opined, "'The zoo has come to town ???' What kind of icebreaker phrase is that ? The fact he has to introduce himself and try to socialize is just odd."

"This woman at the donut shop in Georgia is my spirit animal. She wants absolutely nothing to do with JD Vance. Hilarious!" a user tweeted.
