What's inside Ashley Biden's diary as first daughter confirms content's authenticity in written testimony
WASHINGTON, DC: The news of a controversial diary allegedly written by President Joe Biden's daughter, Ashley Biden, has resurfaced online once again.
The diary, which was reportedly stolen from the first daughter, contains references to her sexual trauma. As per the latest reports, the 42-year-old confirmed the diary is true in a letter written to a New York Judge. Also, Snopes, a fact-checking website, claimed that the diary's contents are true.
As per a report by the Associated Press in August 2022, the diary got into the hands of two people after one was shifted into the apartment previously occupied by the president's daughter. Ashely left a diary, tax records, and a digital device that had family photos at her friend's Delray Beach home before moving out in spring 2020.
Aimee Harris, who moved into the apartment, found the diary and contacted Robert Kurlander. The latter said it would sell and help her make a "ton of money." Harris and Kurlander later pleaded guilty in August 2022 for conspiring to transfer the stolen diary across site lines and for selling it to Project Veritas, a far-right activist group.
What is inside the contentious diary?
A month before the 2020 presidential election, in which Ashley's father was the Democratic candidate, The National File, a right-wing blog, published an alleged "copy of the complete diary of Ashley Blazer Biden, the 39-year-old daughter of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden, dating from during the 2020 presidential campaign."
A particular page from the "leaked diary," which was often cited, contained the first daughter's detailed writings about her recovery from addiction. Shockingly, it mentioned sexual trauma, where she raised questions about being "hyper-sexualized @ a young age."
Besides references about her aversion to visiting a particular family's house, "being sexualized" with a female friend, and "having sex with friends @ a young age," she also wrote about taking showers with her dad. She wrote, "showers with my dad (probable not appropriate)."
The first daughter also mentioned that she was "molested."
Ashley Biden confirms the authenticity of the diary
In a letter to a New York Judge regarding Harris's case over stealing her diary, Ashley confirmed the content was her words, according to The New York Times, which published the letter in April 2024.
"After being the victim of a crime in my early twenties, I developed PTSD. The journal that was stolen was part of my efforts to heal," the letter read. Ashley also mentioned that she was targeted because her father was running for president.
"The extensive work I have done to move past my trauma was undone by Ms. Harris's actions."
The first daughter added that she was "re-traumatized" by the publicity of the "leaked diary" despite the criminal act taking place three years ago. "I will forever have to deal with the fact that my personal journal can be viewed online," Ashely said in the letter.
Snopes reverses its previous claim on the 'leaked diary'
Fact-checking website Snopes, in March 2023, discussed a phone call that was shared by many right-leaning accounts on X (formerly Twitter), which had audio of a phone conversation between Ashley and investigators of Project Veritas.
The website earlier reported that the phone call was evidence that Project Veritas had Ashley's diary, which they did not publish. But later, the National File published it a month before the 2020 election.
However, more than a year later, on April 29, 2024, Snopes reversed the fact check from "Unproven" to "True" in light of Ashley's testimony after she confirmed the diary was hers in a letter to a New York Judge.
