WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race has "nothing to do with his health," according to his top spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre.

Jean-Pierre confirmed that the president is "going to speak to this directly to the American people in prime time" during the briefing on Wednesday, July 24.

Karine Jean-Pierre rejects claims of 'cover-up' to mask Joe Biden's mental decline

Referring to Joe Biden's decision to withdraw his candidacy, Karine Jean-Pierre said, “In his letter, he talked about the country, he talked about the party, he talked about the moment we’re in right now."

“It is not about his health. I can say no, that’s not the reason. But hear him out tonight," she added.

The press secretary firmly denied allegations that she and White House aides were involved in a "cover-up" to conceal Biden's mental decline from the public.

“There’s been no cover up, want to be very clear about that,” said Jean-Pierre.

Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race

Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 22, that he is ending his reelection bid weeks after his disastrous debate performance on June 27 that sparked concerns among Democrats who called on the president to step aside and allow someone to replace him as the party's presidential nominee.

The White House maintained that the 81-year-old commander-in-chief was dealing with a cold after the debate, according to The Hill.

Biden had been self-isolating with Covid-19 in Delaware for five days until he tested negative on Tuesday, July 23.

The president is set to address the nation from the Oval Office at 8 pm to elaborate on his decision to suspend his campaign.

Biden also issued an endorsement for Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.

"While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," read Biden's statement.

Internet says White House's claim of Joe Biden's decision to end campaign is a 'lie'

As White House stated Biden's decision to step aside in the 2024 presidential race is "not about his health," netizens refused to believe the statement as the speculations surrounding the president's health and mental fitness has sparked concerns about his candidacy within his own party.

"Yes, of course, exactly another lie," a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote while another user tweeted, "My God, does the gaslighting ever end?"

"Was he trolling us the whole time?" a netizen commented and someone remarked, "He's obviously saying that in order to finish his term, but he is lying."

"Backing up lies with more lies," a user opined while a netizen tweeted, "It has everything to do with the pressure within his party to drop out due to his failing health and poll numbers."
