NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'The View' host Whoopi Goldberg slammed President Donald Trump as “insanely rude” after he hosted the US men’s Olympic hockey team at his State of the Union address on Tuesday, February 24.

During the speech, Trump praised the team for defeating Canada in the Winter Olympics final, saying, "What a special job you did! What special champions you are!" But the hosts of 'The View' made it clear they were not impressed.

Joy Behar expressed her reaction to the full State of the Union address, highlighting Trump’s comments on immigration, “I watched the whole thing, and I was physically ill from it and more nauseous than usual watching him.”

As her co-hosts echoed their own criticisms, Behar continued, “What’s worse than him are the sycophants and the acolytes who are praising him and going along with him. I’m dismissing him because he’s not well. The man is not well. His narcissistic disorder is off the charts.”

Goldberg responded, "You know what, he’s also insanely rude, because a lot of people won gold for the US, a lot of people won gold. I’m sorry. You know. The women’s hockey team and the women — and the young skater who comes from [an] immigrant family — I mean there are a lot..."

Co-host Sara Haines added a humorous note, saying, “He’s clearly a fan of ‘Heated Rivalry,’ Whoopi, that’s why he loves the hockey players! I can agree with Donald Trump on this," referencing the HBO Max series about a romance between rival male hockey players.

In contrast to the co-hosts of 'The View' criticizing Trump for honoring the US men’s hockey team, Trump actually invited the women’s hockey team, who also defeated their Canadian rivals to win gold, to the State of the Union address. However, the team declined his invitation.

USA Hockey thanked the president for the invitation, saying, "We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our gold medal-winning US Women’s Hockey Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement."

The organization explained that the players could not attend because they had already scheduled academic and professional commitments after the Games.

USA Hockey said in the statement, "Due to the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate. They were honored to be included and are grateful for the acknowledgment.”

In a postgame call, Trump invited the men's team to the State of the Union, telling the players, “I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that.” He then joked, “I do believe I probably would be impeached,” if he failed to invite the women’s team along with the men.
