MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Whoopi Goldberg suggested that if the Supreme Court rules that Donald Trump is immune to criminal charges in an election interference case, President Joe Biden could potentially have the power to imprison "every Republican."

The Supreme Court has recently announced its decision to schedule oral arguments for the case regarding presidential immunity, set for the end of April.

Goldberg's speculation on Biden's potential power amid Supreme Court's ruling

Critics have expressed concerns, suggesting that the Court, which includes three justices appointed by Trump, may employ delay tactics to postpone the Jan 6 case.

Trump asserts that he possesses absolute immunity in various criminal cases, and it will be up to the Supreme Court to define the scope of this immunity.

On the February 29 episode of the show, Goldberg floated the idea that if the Supreme Court upholds Trump's claims of immunity, it could potentially grant Biden unprecedented power, including the ability to imprison political opponents.

“Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says yes, he has all those rights. He is immune from everything. Do you know what Joe Biden could do since he is presently president? Wooooo!” Golberg said. “He could throw every Republican in jail. I mean, he could!”

'The View' co-host had to intervene when some members of the audience began applauding the notion. "No, No, this is not a good thing," she quickly clarified, recognizing the gravity and potential implications of such an assertion.

Goldberg contended that if the Supreme Court were to uphold Trump's claim of immunity, it would set a "slippery slope" precedent.

"What this means is he can do anything. He could dismiss everybody’s debt, you know, there’s a whole bunch of great stuff that could happen too," she remarked, highlighting the broad implications of such a decision. She criticized the potential outcome as a "bad look" for the Supreme Court.

Critics label on SCOTUS immunity case decision as a delay tactic

Contrarily, Sunny Hostin provided a more positive outlook, predicting a ruling by the end of June. She asserted that a decisive verdict from the Supreme Court would eliminate any grounds for appeal for Trump if he were to stand trial and be convicted before a possible presidential election in November.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a former communications official in the Trump White House, labeled the decision to hear the case as a delay tactic. Joy Behar expressed frustration with the situation, exclaiming at one point, "I feel like I’m in the wrong country".

As a result, Goldberg gained support from the online community, with a user on X commenting, "She’s revealing an integral part of their wish list."

Another asked, "Where’s the lie?" while one stated, "That's what he's trying to do anyway."

However, there were other sects of people who asked, "I love Whoopie but it was so sad and scary for her to say Biden can put all Republicans in jail. Why?".
