LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: There's a wild conspiracy theory making waves on the internet, and it’s got Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Sean "Diddy" Combs all tangled up.

According to the theory, Kanye's infamous interruption of Swift at the 2009 VMAs wasn't just a moment of drama—it was allegedly him saving her from something far more sinister.

2009 VMAs incident involving Kanye West and Taylor Swift spurs wild conspiracy theories

Let's rewind the clock to 2009. Taylor Swift has just won the Best Female Video award for her hit 'You Belong with Me' at the MTV Video Music Awards.

As she begins her acceptance speech, Kanye suddenly storms the stage, grabs the mic, and declares that Beyonce, who is sitting in the audience, deserves the award instead for 'Single Ladies' as it's "one of the best videos of all time."

"Yo, Taylor, I'm happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!" said Kanye. The moment became instantly iconic, with a visibly shocked Swift standing on stage unsure of what had just happened. Meanwhile, Beyonce looked equally perplexed from her seat.

Shortly after, Swift told reporters, "I was standing on stage and I was excited because I'd just won the award and then I was excited because Kanye West was on stage … And then I wasn't excited anymore after that."

It remains one of the most talked-about moments in VMA history, but little did anyone know that years later it would spur some bizarre theories.

Fast forward to today, and social media is buzzing with a new narrative around the 2009 incident. According to some TikTok users, Kanye’s interruption wasn’t just about Beyonce deserving the award—it was actually a calculated move to protect Swift from getting too close to Beyonce and by extension Diddy.

According to these theorists, Beyonce was allegedly close to Diddy at the time of the VMAs. Some have claimed he had questionable intentions towards younger artists. TikTokers believe Kanye knew about Diddy's alleged behavior and wanted to deliberately create some tension between Beyonce and Swift to keep the latter out of harm’s way.

One X (formerly Twitter) user summed up the speculation: "This diddy thing is making ppl go insane. The conspiracy theories got me dead 😂 they saying Beyonce was gonna kill Taylor swift so Kanye saved her when he interrupted Taylor on stage 💀 but hey, I’ve never seen so many positive Kanye comments in a while so a win is a win 😂🤝🏾."

It’s an outrageous theory no doubt, but it’s caught the attention of many online. Some are digging deeper, even pointing to Kanye’s controversial 2016 music video 'Famous' which included a Swift look-alike.

As per the theory, this scene may have been a veiled reference to Diddy's alleged misconduct toward younger women in the industry. However, the connection between the 'Famous' video and Diddy is completely speculative, as per Express Tribune.

Truth behind the wild theories involving Kanye West and Taylor Swift VMAs incident

As wild as the conspiracy may be, there’s no solid proof to back up these claims. Kanye West has never revealed any intention to "save" Taylor Swift from anyone, let alone Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Most people who were around during the 2009 VMAs believe Kanye's interruption was simply because he thought Beyonce truly deserved the award. As for Diddy's involvement? It appears to be nothing more than speculation amplified by fans online.

The emergence of these theories, of course, coincides with Diddy’s ongoing legal troubles. On September 16, the Bad Boy Records founder was arrested in New York and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

An old video of Kanye discussing Diddy resurfaced around this time. In the clip, which was originally part of a 'Drink Champs' podcast episode, Kanye refers to Diddy as a "fed" and accuses him of making shady deals to avoid prison time.

He said, "The reason why you gotta talk is because you did a deal, you f***ing fed! That’s why you’ve gotta come at me, because part of the deal for you to be able to do all that and get out of jail is that you promised that you are gonna go pull my card."

Notably, the full interview was removed from various online platforms due to controversial remarks made by Kanye.

Currently, Diddy is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His lawyers have been trying to get bail, but the judges have rejected their attempts twice — ruling that Diddy should remain in custody until his trial.
