WASHINGTON, DC: A star was born on stage in Washington DC on Sunday night, February 25, even if he did need a boost to reach the drums.

3-year-old Rennie enthralled concertgoers when he made his debut alongside musician parents David Foster and Katharine McPhee, keeping perfect time on the drums while Foster tickled the ivories.

The adorable performance lit up social media. It seems the musical genes have passed from famous parents to son, and little Rennie is already walking in some very big footsteps, as per Daily Mail.

David Foster and Katharine McPhee welcomed son Rennie in February 2021

Rennie is the son of singer and actress McPhee, 39, and prolific music producer Foster, 74, who tied the knot in 2019. The couple welcomed Rennie in February 2021.

On Sunday, McPhee and Foster were performing one of their popular concerts when they invited their toddler son up on stage. Rennie could be seen playing a small drum set while wearing headphones, tapping along enthusiastically as his father played piano and his mother looked on from the edge of the stage.

McPhee shared a clip of the special moment on her Instagram, writing in the caption, "Had a VERY special guest join us on stage for the first time. #ProudMom."

The clip immediately went viral, with fans gushing over Rennie's apparent musical talents. However, McPhee later clarified that while Rennie was drumming along, the sounds heard during that part of the song actually came from legendary drummer John JR Robinson.

Still, fans were smitten by the sight of the skilled toddler keeping a perfect rhythm on the drums alongside his famous parents.

Rennie demonstrated legitimate percussive abilities in past videos

While Rennie's Sunday night drum solo was more for show, he has demonstrated some legitimate percussive abilities in videos shared by his mother and father on social media over the past year.

In January, Foster posted a clip showing Rennie competently playing a miniature drum kit while Foster nodded in appreciation. The video earned over 2.4 million likes from impressed fans.

It's clear the musical gene runs deep in the Foster family. In addition to his own wildly successful career writing, producing and performing music, Foster is father to five daughters from previous relationships - all of whom have careers in music and entertainment.

Now it appears Rennie may be the next prodigy to carry on the family legacy. Between his viral drumming debut and previous posts showcasing his talents, this toddler's musical future looks bright.
