WASHINGTON, DC: Marjorie Taylor Greene found herself in hot water after she claimed that “MAGA would revolt” if former President Donald Trump picked rival Nikki Haley to serve as his running mate in the general election.

The 49-year-old Republican congresswoman, who has mused about joining his ticket herself, took to her Twitter on Tuesday, December 12 to blast the former South Carolina governor as a “neocon.”

“MAGA would revolt if Nikki Haley were to even be given an internship in Trump’s next administration,” Greene wrote in her post, referring to supporters of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.

“She represents the neocon establishment America's last wing of the Republican Party that we are absolutely done with,” she continued. Greene further alleged on X that Haley “lied and said she would not run against Trump.”

Growing whispers of a possible Trump-Haley ticket

Greene -- who has often been viewed as the face of Trump's MAGA base -- was responding to growing speculations that a Trump-Haley ticket may emerge as the support for one-time UN ambassador has been growing among Republican primary voters who have grown weary of the former president

Recent polls show that Haley's campaign has gained a lot of traction. According to the RealClearPolitics aggregate, she has surpassed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in Iowa as well as nationwide and is now in second position in New Hampshire.

Greene’s fierce tweet also came after several influential figures voiced their opinion that Haley could serve in Trump’s second administration.

Lara Trump, the real estate mogul’s daughter-in-law, said Monday night that the former president is not ruling Haley out as a potential running mate.

“Crazier things have happened,” Lara Trump told Newsmax’s Eric Bolling about a potential Trump-Haley ticket. “I don’t know, I would never say never with Donald J. Trump,” she added.

Kevin McCarthy, the former speaker of California, stated a few weeks ago that selecting a running mate is "about addition, not subtraction, so you're not going to pick somebody that already equates to you."

“Now if I was picking for purely political decisions, what it looks like today is the anti-Trump vote is going to Nikki Haley,” McCarthy said, adding that Haley appears to be the most qualified to consolidate the vote.

Though there have been whispers that Haley would serve in a second Trump administration, the 51-year-old has consistently stated during the campaign trail that "I don't play for second."

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s remarks

Greene’s fierce post has garnered immense social media attention, with users calling her ‘jealous’ for warning that ‘MAGA would revolt’ if Trump let Haley join his team.

“You sound jealous, Marjorie,” one user mocked Greene. “He's still not going to pick you,” the second user blasted.

“She’s unworthy of any job in the next Trump Administration. Better people available,” the third user blasted while the fourth user wrote, “Lol. As soon as he picks her you will fall in line.”

“MTG - You voted to keep McCarthy on as SOTH. So I'm not sure you can be trusted in a Trump administration, either,” the fifth user fumed.

“But Trump said Nikki called him and he said it was fine. You’re all grifters and clown shows,” one more said.
