NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: House of Representative Speaker Mike Johnson took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to post about his take on President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on March 7.

While Johnson claimed that the incumbent was misleading about the condition of the country, netizens were quick to point out that he appeared very agreeable with Biden's takes on the House floor.

Speaker Mike Johnson's tweet

Johnson shared a clip of himself talking about Biden's speech on Fox News, where he is seen saying, "I'm not sure who wrote this speech, but they went out there to lob grenades tonight... And I don't think the American people are buying that..."

"He (Biden) tried to suggest that we are in great shape and the state of the union is strong, and we all know that's not true," he continues. "The state of the union is in decline in every measurable category - on the world stage, our sovereignty, our safety, the economy - everybody knows this."

"So gaslighting the American people is not going to work, and I thought it was a very big disappointment tonight."

He re-emphasized his stance by writing in the post, "Tonight, President Biden suggested that the state of the union is strong, but we all know that's not true. We are a nation in decline across every measurable category: on the world stage, in terms of our sovereignty, and economically. Gaslighting the American people is not going to work."

Internet reacts to Speaker Mike Johnson's tweet

Netizens expressed dissatisfaction with the Speaker's remarks, noting a lack of corresponding action, as illustrated by the subsequent tweets.

"You sure looked awfully agreeable during the whole thing," wrote a user, as another echoed, "You did a lot of clapping for a non supporter."

"You were all in on Ukraine—nodding in agreement and stood applauding Biden. But sure Mike, try to convince the American People you share our values, concerns, and dreams for ourselves, our families, and the future of our Republic," stated a user. [sic]

"More empty window dressing and lip service! You were nodding in agreement almost the entire time. Let’s face it, with your feckless 'leadership,' we do not have an opposition party in this country! They eat your lunch at every turn!" slammed another user.

"You nodded and clapped over and over for non conservative values through out the speech. Close the border and stop posting on X. Close the border or nothing passes," said one more user. [sic]
