COLUMBUS, OHIO: GOP Presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, January 1, to demand the shutting down of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the United States’ principal federal law enforcement agency tasked with domestic intelligence and security service.

The biotech entrepreneur claimed that the President of the United States has the authority to disband federal agencies while taking an indirect dig at his fellow candidate Florida Governor Ron DeSantis who vowed to fire FBI Director Christopher Wray, if elected POTUS, whose tenure is set to run until 2027.

What did Vivek Ramaswamy say in his tweet on New Year’s Day?

Ramaswamy wrote on X, “The GOP establishment is fine with candidates saying 'I’ll fire Christopher Wray' because it’ll shut up MAGA & libertarians while doing *absolutely nothing* in substance.”

“The right answer: SHUT IT DOWN. Yes, a President can do it & we deserve one who won’t fall for their tricks,” he added.

Ramaswamy aimed at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis without explicitly naming him in his tweet, alluding to his comment at an interview in July 2023 on ‘Just the News, No Noise’ television show on Real America’s Voice.

DeSantis had outlined his plan to restructure the federal government and committed to "clean house" in the executive branch health agencies and the Justice Department.

“We're going to have a reckoning for CDC, NIH and the FDA,” the Republican Governor had said during the previous calendar year about what his presidency would look like.

“They’re approving, on an emergency basis, MRNA Covid jabs for six-month-old babies,” he continued. “There was no data to support that. There was no benefit shown to that,” he says.

Per a report by the New York Post, DeSantis shot to political fame among conservatives due to his opposition to the rigorous Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, mask and vaccine mandates that public health experts had consistently pushed for.

“They were pursuing a political agenda, and the politics and the narrative were more important to them than the evidence and the science,” he told at the time.

Moreover, DeSantis criticized large pharmaceutical companies, stating that, “the power … that they exert over the healthcare system and over physicians is huge.”

“It’s totally unhealthy for our society how they basically control the FDA,” he shared with the outlet at the time.

“Because there’s a revolving door, how some of these people in the bureaucracy get royalties for different things. It is a swamp,” he added.

DeSantis further stated that removing FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has held the position since 2017, will be among his first actions as president if elected.

“I’m going to go in, new FBI director on Day One, clean out the Department of Justice,” he pledged.

In the wake of a wave of allegations that the bureau has been used as a weapon against conservatives, Republicans have sharply criticized Wray’s leadership.

“That is the most important thing because when you go in there, the Department of Justice has become the Left’s little playpen. They think they own it, you know, 99 per cent donations to Democrats, and they obviously weaponize that,” he said.

The Republican governor added, “So if you’re going in there, and you’re cleaning house, you are going to be pilloried by CNN, the New York Times and Washington Post. So you have to be somebody who relishes that.”

Internet disagrees with Vivek Ramaswamy's bold idea of disbanding US intel

People on X slammed GOP presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy for his over-the-top takes, reminding him that he's still losing in the presidential primaries.

One X user wrote, "You’re losing."

Another user asked, "Can you explain why you think as president you would be able to just 'shut it down'? I'm pretty sure you'd need congress approval ... so this repeating of 'I'll SHUT IT DOWN' because it fires some people up and gets ya lots of clicks feels, well - disingenuous."

Another user remarked, "Good you won’t be pres"

One X user said, "Leaving no federal agencies would lead to even more problems/corruption at the federal level.. NO way forget you..."

Another user quipped, "Guess you forgot he’s a Trump appointee."

Finally, this user tweeted, "The President literally does not, so stop saying it."
