SHOSHONE COUNTY, IDAHO: An active shooting occurred at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, Idaho, on Friday, December 27. Law enforcement responded immediately after reports of gunfire at the county sheriff’s office.

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the reports, stating the situation was real and they were sending reinforcement to assist their neighboring jurisdiction. Authorities worked to secure the area and investigate the incident. Two people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals, though the severity of their injuries has not been fully disclosed.

Active shooter reported at Shoshone County Sheriff's Office in Idaho

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook on Friday, December 27: "The online reports of an active shooter at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, Idaho are accurate. We are sending reinforcement to help our neighbor. Please pray for all law enforcement. And stay out of the downtown area in Wallace if possible."



According to the Shoshone News Press, the suspected shooter barricaded themselves inside the attorney visiting room of the building. Officials confirmed the suspected shooter is dead.

The suspect reportedly fired multiple shots inside and outside the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, prompting a SWAT response. At least seven shots were reported, and a significant police presence remained on the scene. Residents were urged to avoid downtown Wallace while law enforcement worked to secure the area.

Social media captured the chaos, with witnesses sharing videos and images of the scene. One user tweeted: "Active event. Shooting at the Shoshone County courthouse in Wallace, Idaho. Reports say the shooting started outside the courthouse but then moved inside. There’s been a barrage of gunshots heard, and they are trying to evacuate the courthouse at this time."



Authorities advised that anyone requiring emergency assistance from Silver Valley Fire Rescue or the Kellogg Fire Department should call 208-784-1188.

The investigation is ongoing, and multiple law enforcement agencies remain at the scene to ensure public safety and gather information on the incident.
