WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Adam Schiff on Sunday, March 1, stated that President Trump was wrong to order the killing of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei because, according to him, “it posed no imminent threat of attack to the United States.”

During the exchange, host George Stephanopoulos pressed Schiff on whether the targeted killing was an appropriate action, given Iran’s long history of global aggression and brutality toward its people.

Adam Schiff says no imminent Iran threat

During a recent episode of ABC’s ‘This Week,’ Senator Adam Schiff agreed that the Iranian leader was a brutal dictator but argued that the strike was still unjustified.

He said, “No. You’re right about the Ayatollah. He was a brutal dictator. This is a murderous regime. But at the same time, it posed no imminent threat of attack to the United States.”

He stated that Iran “had not reconstituted their nuclear program, which the president just months ago said had been obliterated.”

“They do not have ballistic missiles capable of hitting the United States. There was simply no basis to go in with this massive military campaign with the goal of regime change,” Schiff added.

Adam Schiff warns of Iran regime chaos

Schiff also expressed deep concern about what might happen next in the region as a result of this action.

He warned that the Iranian people might be encouraged to rise up against their government, only to be left in a dangerous position.

As he explained, “The concern here is that we have unleashed factors in the region now that we cannot control if the Iranian people do rise up, as the president has called upon them to do, maybe they’re successful.”

He added, “Maybe they get slaughtered in reliance on the president’s implicit promise that we will be there to help them. Maybe the regime just takes a new form, an equally depraved regime. And then what have we accomplished?”

Adam Schiff demands War Powers vote

While concluding his remarks, the senator highlighted the danger this creates for American soldiers serving in the Middle East.

He criticized President Trump for taking such a major action without explaining his reasons to the public or seeking authorization from Congress.

He stated, “The president has made no case to the American people. He sought no authorization from Congress. We need to return ASAP and take up a vote on the War Powers Resolution.”
