Air ambulance vanishes mysteriously after leaving Bermuda with 6 aboard
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: An air ambulance carrying six people has disappeared over the Atlantic after departing Bermuda for the United States on Saturday, October 3, triggering a search operation involving aircraft and vessels.
The Gulfstream G100 was making a medical transfer flight toward Boston when communication with aviation authorities was lost.
Data tracking the aircraft has since raised further questions about its final moments, as crews search waters off Massachusetts for any sign of the missing plane.
Timeline of the flight's last contact
The aircraft left the LF Wade International Airport in Bermuda shortly after midnight on Saturday, bound for Boston Logan International Airport.
Six people were aboard the medical transport aircraft, according to information released by US aviation authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search-and-rescue alert at approximately 1.20 am local time after losing contact with the flight.
The agency subsequently coordinated with the Rescue Coordination Center and the US Coast Guard.
The aircraft had been expected to reach Boston at around 1.25 am, but authorities lost contact before its scheduled arrival.
Flight tracking information provides an unusual picture of the aircraft's final recorded movements.
Data showed the Gulfstream descending from approximately 23,500 feet to about 11,000 feet within roughly three minutes.
Its final radar position was recorded at around 1.23 am, only minutes before the expected arrival time.
