'AITA for not allowing my sister to store 200 pounds of live crabs in my bathtub for her wedding?'

'AITA for not allowing my sister to store 200 pounds of live crabs in my bathtub for her wedding?'
A woman sought advice on Reddit regarding her sister accusing her of being unsupportive for refusing to let her store live crabs in her bathtub (Catherine Falls Commercial/Collection moment)

A 32-year-old woman has become involved in a bizarre situation with her younger sister, who is getting married soon.

Taking to Reddit's “Am I the A**hole” (AITAH) forum, the woman, under the username Forsaken-Teaching-22, wrote, "So my sister (30F) is getting married next weekend, and for reasons I don’t entirely understand, the theme of her wedding is crabs. Like, actual crabs."

Woman's sister wants her to store '200 pounds of live crabs' in her bathtub

The woman noted that her sister is "obsessed" with crabs and has managed to incorporate the crustaceans into everything for her big day — from the wedding invitations to the table centerpieces.

"Even her dress has little crab embroidery," she revealed, before diving into the problem she is facing.

"The problem started yesterday when she called me in a complete meltdown because her ‘crab supplier’ (apparently this is a thing) fell through, and now she’s managed to source 200 pounds of live crabs at the last minute," the woman wrote, noting that now her sister wants the crabs to be stored in her bathtub.

Her sister's justification is that she "owes" her as she stays "alone" and "doesn’t even take baths." "True, but I do shower in there and prefer not to share it with angry sea creatures," the woman wrote.

When she refused to let her fill her bathtub with the crabs, her sister called her selfish and accused her of "sabotaging her wedding."

Woman's family thinks she should give into her sister's demand

The woman's sister insists that "the bathroom is 'perfect' because it has a drain, and all I’d have to do is 'hose it down' afterward." She made sure to tell her sister that she found her whole plan "insane."

However, the sister has resorted to rallying the family against her. Her sister has been complaining that she's "being unsupportive" and that she doesn't "understand how stressful planning a wedding is."

"Even my dad is telling me to ‘just do it for a few days’ to keep the peace," the woman shared.

Concluding her post, she wrote, "For the record, I think her wedding sounds like a logistical nightmare, but I’ve been polite about it. I just don’t think my bathroom should turn into a crab-holding tank because she can’t rent a cooler like a normal person. AITA?"

Redditors agree with the woman's decision to refuse her sister to fill her bathtub with live crabs for her wedding

The Reddit community agreed with the woman's decision to keep the crabs out of her bathtub, with one writing, "NTA. Let your dad or the other coercive family members take on the crabs. ADD: Water temp, salinity, and oxygen wouldn’t be right. They will die anyway."

Another pointed out, "NTA. You can't ‘store’ salt water living beings in fresh water. Not even fresh water, but treated with chemicals. They will die before her wedding anyway then you will have to deal with the god awful stench of 200 dead crabs that she will undoubtedly leave to you to dispose of. Tell your sister that other family members have offered to help, then send her to everyone who told you to 'just do it.'"

"NTA for being Shellfish about your tub. A large fisherman's cooler works just as nicely and can be stored anywhere, like her house or anyone willing to take in the creatures," another comment read.

"NTA - if she can afford 200 pounds of live crabs, she can afford proper storage until the moment they are brought out for the wedding. And if your tub is full, you won't be able to get a shower in time to go to the wedding, so you'll just have to decline the invitation. What's this with crab decorations? Sounds insane. I dunno - I'd want an explanation of how she is going to do this. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen," one more offered.

"Your bathroom is not a suitable storage facility for her live seafood. Your home is not hers to commandeer. She and other family members are being unreasonable, unfair and inconsiderate. If you dad thinks it is no big deal then he should house the crabs in his bathtub. Your sister's genius solution is insane," one more wrote.
