Having a good co-worker is something that is not in our hands and it is a blessing to have a friendly working environment at your workplace. However, at times some co-workers try to take advantage of others by playing emotional cards and if it doesn't work for them, they curse the other person.
Recently, a woman took to Reddit's popular 'Am I the A*****e' (AITA) forum to share that she did not cover for her co-worker with a sick child which resulted in her being fired.
Woman explains about her working environment
The 25-year-old woman wrote in a Reddit post titled "AITAH for not covering for my coworker with a sick kid, resulting in her being fired" that she works as a hospice nurse for a home hospice company.
She mentioned in her post that all of the nurses are salaried, and they make their own hours for the most part.
She wrote, "This is a desirable job for nurses wanting to get out of working 12-hour shifts at hospitals. It’s very desirable for parents especially."

The woman further wrote in the post that they all have to take turns being on call overnight, roughly once every two weeks which is mandatory.
"All of my coworkers have kids pretty much. Everyone except me. In the three years that I have been here I have asked my coworkers for virtually nothing. I never really get sick, and I handle my stuff. I have never called out of an on call shift," she added.
She mentioned that he boss has a three-strikes rule, where if they have to call out of their on-call shift three times within a year, they get fired.
She wrote, "No exceptions. If you trade your on call shift however it doesn’t count against you, it only counts against you if our boss has to mandate someone into covering the shift. I have watched my boss fire several people over this in the few years that I have worked here."
Woman does not cover for her co-worker with a sick child
Continuing the post, the woman wrote that they got a new coworker four months ago and named her Mandy for the post. She wrote that Mandy has called out of her on-call shift twice so far which is not a good track record.
She added that Mandy's husband is on active duty and deploys a lot, and she has four kids and struggles to find a babysitter for them.
The woman wrote that this past Monday was Mandy’s on-call and she sent out an email requesting someone to take it because her babysitter got sick through her child who was already sick
"I offered to trade her, if she works Valentine’s Day for me. Win win right? I get Valentine’s Day off, and can go on a date. And Mandy gets her shift covered and doesn’t get fired," she mentioned.

She added, "Mandy said her husband comes back on Thursday, and they wanted to go out for Valentine’s Day. Apparently, their marriage was heading towards divorce, and they really needed this night. She asked me if she could just work a day for me next month instead. I said no chance."
The woman wrote that Mandy tried to make her feel guilty and shameful which led to her backing out. She added that Mandy tried to backpedal, but she said no. She wrote that Mandy pleaded with her and their boss but she got fired.
She concluded, "I can tell my boss and some of our coworkers think I’m an a*****e, since I had the free time to cover her shift, and I don’t have kids or anything. AITAH?"
