A 31-year-old woman, known as Imamuffinz on Reddit, took to r/AITAH to share about a tense shopping trip with her mother and aunt and asked if she was in the wrong for speaking out.

The trio went on a shopping excursion to grab last-minute gifts for Original Poster's (OP) 12-year-old cousins. When they entered an adult lingerie and clothing store, OP overheard her mom and aunt talking about how cute the swimsuits were and how beautiful her cousins would look in them.

The OP revealed, "They selected revealing bikinis. not meant for 12 year old bodies. This is an adult shop (similar to Victoria secret or la senza) . It had lace exposed a lot of skin and was TINY."

However, the swimsuits they picked were revealing and not designed for young girls. OP approached them calmly and said, "'Those are cute...but I don't think it's appropriate for 12 year old YOUNG girls, don't you think?'"

She further explained about the dress, "They had one piece suits as well. Some that were more modest and can be worn."

Her mom became upset, replying, "Oh no! Don't you start! Don't ruin my shopping day! You’re being sick." Meanwhile, her aunt dismissed her by saying, "Oh? Did you pick anything out for yourself?"

Undeterred, OP continued, expressing her concerns about the potential dangers of revealing clothing for young girls. She stated, "I'd just think about it. Young girls, underdeveloped bodies, wearing barely anything... men at the beach looking. Just a thought. I'd look for something that would be age-appropriate. Let them be KIDS."

Later, OP was further shocked when her mom brought her a skin-tight, sheer one-piece bathing suit with a corset-style bra. She took it and said,  "Look I understand you love these designs but this is not appropriate for a very young girl."

She went on to say, "This is for somebody who was about to get married or is going out for a very hot date. I know we both don't like the thought, but there's going to be a lot of adults and we know how perverted the men can be back home. Let the girls be kids. They are kids."

To her surprise, her mom agreed and found a more modest suit. However, neither her mom nor her aunt apologized for their initial choices.

In the post, she expressed that she just wanted to protect her young cousins, saying, "I rather my cousins to be safe and wear something that they can use for a while and still be modest while they still can."

Internet supports OP's decision, praising her for prioritizing her young cousins' safety

The Reddit users overwhelmingly supported OP's decision, applauding her for prioritizing her young cousins' safety and well-being.

A user said, "Nta! Asked your creepy mom and aunt , why they think it is appropriate to s**ualize young girls? Which by away a snow ball stands a better chace of not melting in hell."

One commentator remarked, "I think it's great what you said. Nta at all, but I think it would HILARIOUS to see what the cousins parents thought when they handed over the swimsuits. Maybe another family member could've yelled the sense in to them."
