AITA: Internet backs bride for not inviting sister to wedding after 'fake pregnancy stunt' at engagement

Let’s be real, weddings are already a circus of emotions. Now imagine adding a sister who hogs all the attention she can find into the mix.

That’s the reality one 28-year-old bride is facing after her younger sister pulled a rather jaw-dropping stunt at her engagement dinner. She made a "pregnancy announcement" that turned out to be fake. Now, the bride is considering canceling her sister’s wedding invite.

The fake pregnancy bombshell

The bride shared her story on Reddit’s 'Am I The A*****e? thread. She opened up about her 25-year-old sister, who she described as a “drama queen” with a knack for making everything about herself.

“I try to give her grace because she’s had a tough time since our parents’ divorce,” the bride explained. “However, her behavior crossed a line recently, and now I’m questioning whether she should even be at my wedding.”

So, what exactly went down? A month before, the bride’s future in-laws hosted a cozy dinner to celebrate the engagement. But her sister had other plans.

“After a few glasses of wine, she announced—completely out of nowhere—that she was pregnant,” the bride recounted. And it wasn’t just words. The sister whipped out ultrasound photos and passed them around the table like party favors.

The fiance’s traditional parents were visibly uncomfortable, and the bride’s mother started pressing for details. That’s when the sister said she wanted it to be a surprise. But the real kicker came when she later admitted those ultrasounds were straight-up Google images.

“She admitted this to me later, claiming she just wanted to ‘lighten the mood’ because she felt left out,” the bride said.

Understandably, the bride was furious. This dinner was supposed to be about her engagement, not her sister’s imaginary baby. And while her fiance became equally upset, he was supportive of whatever decision she made.

“When I confronted her, she brushed it off as ‘just a joke’ and said I was overreacting,” the bride shared. The sister even doubled down, calling her "selfish" for blowing up over “one little prank.”

"Now, I'm torn. I love my sister, but I can’t trust her not to pull something similar (or worse) on my wedding day. She’s already told me I’d be 'ruining her reputation' in the family if I exclude her," the woman lamented.

"My mom thinks I should let it go because 'she’s still young' and will 'mature eventually.' But I’m not sure I want to risk my wedding becoming another stage for her antics. So, AITAH for considering not inviting her at all?"

Redditors rush to bride's defense

But Reddit wasn’t having it. Commenters quickly rallied behind the bride and offered some pretty spicy takes on the situation.

“There is something wrong with your sister,” one person bluntly declared.

Another tore into the “she’s still young” excuse, saying, “Excuse me but a 25-year-old woman is not still young. She can drink, she can vote, she can go to prison. Gtfo of here with that bs excuse. Your mother's enabling probably caused this so her opinion doesn't count here. NTA.”

Someone else pointed out the sister’s premeditated antics. “She’s 25, not 15. It was premeditated," they said. "Your sister needs therapy—and your mother didn’t question that she was drinking that whole time when she announced her pregnancy? The fact that she’s not apologetic and has openly admitted that this is how she reacts to being ‘left out’—and it wasn’t a funeral, no ‘mood’ needed to be lightened."

"NTA and hire security to make sure she is denied entry," read a comment.

"100% printed that ultrasound with every intention of stealing your spotlight. That’s forethought. No invitation," another remarked.
