AITA: Internet supports mom who was labeled ‘unsupportive’ for not driving child 3 hours to and from work
For a parent, their child is their priority and they do everything possible to keep the child happy, not only when they are young but also after they grow into adulthood. However, at times, children seem to forget the efforts made by their parents and end up criticizing them.
Recently, a woman on Reddit's popular "Am I the A*****e" forum shared an incident where she revealed that her child called her "unsupportive" after she said she wouldn’t drive them 3 hours a day to and from work.
Child tells mom to be 'supportive' after she refuses to drive them 3 hours a day to and from work
The Reddit user wrote on the AITA forum that the 20-year-old child was offered a job 45 minutes from their house. She added that a car was given to the child, but they do not drive due to not having a license.
The user wrote on Reddit, "They were just offered a job at a location 45 minutes from our house. Taking them to/from work every day would take me 3 hours. I work from home, and I have responsibilities. Also I just do not want to drive for 3 hours every day. I wouldn’t do that for ANY job."
She added, "My kid says I should be supportive and drive them, but I am just not going to do it. I told them that this was an unreasonable request, and I’d be willing to do one trip (1.5 hours) only. There isn’t run public transportation here either. AITAH?"
Internet sides with mother who refused to drive her child 3 hours to and from work
People on the internet sided with the woman who made the post that her child called her "unsupportive" after she said she wouldn’t drive the child 3 hours a day to and from work.
A user commented on the post, "No. Why did they even apply if they didn't know how to drive and couldn't get there?"
Another person wrote, "NTA. unless you gave a car to a kid without a license. If it were 20 minutes away? give the kid a lift. get yourself a nice coffee or a breakfast and start the day slow. but 45 each way? hell no."
A user also added, "Lol of course NTA. That’s an insane request. Even one way… what a waste of time/gas/car wear. This is just not a job your kid can accept."
A person also mentioned, "NTA…'I will not spend three hours out of my day driving you to and from work. I will help you get a driver’s license'."
A user further commented, "NTA. Until they choose to get a license their employment options will be limited to walking and public transportation."
